Hereafter

Movies move me in powerful ways. I call it cinema-therapy, especially when the subject matter is near and dear to my heart. Such was the premise of the recently released Clint Eastwood directed film Hereafter. He explores the idea that life in the midst of death in the midst of life is the way of things.  Three main characters’ relationship with death is touched upon in a profound manner. They range from a successful newscaster who has a near death experience, to a ‘retired’ medium who swears never to enter back into the work that made him an international sensation, and a young boy who experiences a gut wrenching loss.  It brings into question “what really happens when we die and what awaits us on the other side?”  I found the acting to be superb and genuine, with veteran actors Matt Damon and Marthe Keller side by side with charming relative newcomer Cecile De France and delightful child actors, twins Frankie and George McLaren.

My own take is that there is indeed something that invites us in as we make our transition and from what I have heard and read from those who have crossed over and then came back to tell about it, loved ones are on the welcoming committee and that there is an exquisite experience of feeling embraced by love.

What is your belief about the afterlife?

“Hereafter” is indeed a wonderful film. Clint Eastwood is a great actor and director, with an ability to portray real character and emotion. His spirit (soul) and character shine brightly in the acting roles he performs himself, and in the actors he directs.
I was thrilled when he tackled the esential subject for all humans: “the Hereafter”.
He does not “preach” or demand acceptance of , to me, the central issue of human life and all of the physical universe: is there a “HEREAFTER” ?
As a practising “Judaic Christian Roman Catholic” my answer and firm belief is: THERE IS. And in the “hereafterevery human (and maybe many animal) souls now exist and all who are ever conceived will be there.
As vast is the Universe as we can “see” it now , there will be an uncountable host of “souls” existing and if they follow the Scriptures: pithily set forth in Matthew 25: vs 31 to 46 , for one notable revelation to the Gospel writer(s) of Matthew’s Gospel when he or she , or they, between AD 50 and 90 , wrte down what they heard of Jesus’s followers with the help of inspiration from GOD, the Holy Spirit.
Please note, all those who may read this. the first thesis of the current and “brilliant” atheists is: there is no life after death.
More later. If you wish plese comment to “jhgcgm @aol.com”

I just bought the movie today. Matt Damon’s character reminds me of John Edwards, who has a tv program I use to watch before where he helps people connect to departed love ones. People view death in so many ways. I myself have experienced not once but 3 or 4 times crossing that path and I just keep coming back.
I like the description of the character Jayson said what it was like, he said its weightless and I can do so many things. Thats what exactly what I felt. Its amazing and I cant find the right words to describe it for a few minutes I forgot everything there is an overflowing peace and contentment its almost like that Saturday morning when you wake up and found out you have no work today and just lay there on my bed and rest like that but way better. Its like all your burdens and thoughts are gone. I saw my body lying on my bed I was amazed why I was looking at myself then I was like floating I tried grabbing the edge of my bed but my hands just went thru on it. I realized I just died in my sleep, I felt so sad looking at my helpless body I couldnt accept it I cant just die like that it was not yet time. For some reason I forced to go back to my body and keep begging God please I dont want to die yet not this time Lord. When I woke up I was crying but I remember that feeling of being free. had 3 more experiences like this but in other ways. I believe that there is a hereafter. We are just passing by in this world, everything fades and dies in it. But where we go after death is eternal.

What a journey we are all on…crossing over, crossing paths, crossing hard and fast boundaries that we were told exist. <3
