Musical Merging

One of the things that so charms me about music is how permeable it is and allows for merging of style and genre.  Two artists that immediately leap to mind for me are M.C. Yogi and Matisyahu.

A bit of a wild-child,  according to his website: “MC Yogi  was inspired by musicians such as The Beastie Boys & Run DMC, and he began writing raps & freestyling for friends at house parties. Spending most of high school in a group home for at-risk youth, hip hop culture provided both a soundtrack & a creative outlet. Then at age eighteen, he discovered yoga.”

His life changed dramatically from that point and he began using his talents to inspire people to incorporate world wisdom with musical magic. He is attracting world wide audiences, particularly young people such as he was and inspring them to morph their own lives.

Matisyahyu, whose birth name is Matthew Miller delights audiences of all spiritual backgrounds with his blending of traditional Hebrew concepts, rap and reggae.  Bearded and garbed at times in Hassidic black hat and coat, he celebrates his Jewish heritage musically.

'Crazy-busy' is often a way I have described my schedule and level of activity over the past 20 years. Some days I have needed to check both my Google calendar and the beautifully decorated spiral bound Celtic knot designed paper version of the repository for the tasks that comprise my days.  We

As those who have been reading the Bliss Blog for awhile may know, I wear many hats. Tonight I donned the one that is labeled recovery counselor in a drug and alcohol outpatient program. On Monday nights I offer a group for folks who have co-occurring conditions which translates to

Wispy Stream
I was listening to an interview and concert today on World Café on WXPN with Scottish singer-songwriter K.T. Tunstall. I was introduced to her music when Black Horse and The Cherry Tree came out in 2004.  Besides loving her melodic meanderings, I discovered that she and I have something

Love Is The Answer
In the midst of a very late night conversation with my son, this thought kept running through my mind. It's nothing new and yet, as much as I talk about, teach about, counsel about and write about love, there are moments when spiritual amnesia kicks and my experience of love feels as if it is in 'an
