Beautiful People

As a child of the 60′s I was weaned on the music of songbird Melanie Safka. She of the raven haired, raspy voiced visage who invited the ‘world to sing’, also honored the people who make the world a more lovely place.   Each day, I encounter folks who believe that the only ones they will know are the only ones they will ever know. Their world feels pretty small and contained. Many of those in their lives are unsupported or downright abusive. They  fear taking steps beyond the walls of their existence, not trusting that anyone they meet could possibly be a nurturing friend.  Are you in that group? Or do you greet each day, like I do, wondering who it is that will share delight with you as you enrich each others’  lives? It is my morning practice as I literally affirm before I get out of bed that I will  ‘connect with amazing people and have extraordinary experiences’ and each day I do.   Not a surprise anymore, since our minds are so powerfully creative that we draw to ourselves that which is in our awareness and repetitive thought patterns.

When I consider the souls who have entered my life in the last year, my mind reels and my heart swells, since they number in the thousands. I am awed when I ponder how many read my tappings and typings here and the other venues for which I write. Although we may never meet face to face, we are still part of each others’ worlds and as such, we are family of choice and chance and have already had an impact. Maybe we were not even on each others’ radar screen until we just showed up …ta da…abracadabra!  Remember that everyone you now know and love was once a stranger.

Some of the beautiful people in my life are regular players on my life stage and some I rarely see. It makes no difference, since the beauty they exude, because the beauty that they simply ARE,  shines forth and graces my life immeasurably.

You can sing this song to those in your life who fit that category, including the beauty in the mirror.

Beautiful People-Melanie Safka

You live in the same world as I do
But somehow I never noticed
You before today
I’m ashamed to say

Beautiful people
We share the same back door
And it isn’t right
We never met before
But then
We may never meet again
If I weren’t afraid you’d laugh at me
I would run and take all your hands
And I’d gather everyone together for a day
And when we gather’d
I’ll pass buttons out that say
Beautiful people
Then you’d never have to be alone
‘Cause there’ll always be someone
With the same button on as you
Include him in everything you do.

Beautiful people
You ride the same subway
As I do ev’ry morning
That’s got to tell you something
We’ve got so much in common
I go the same direction that you do
So if you take care of me
Maybe I’ll take care of you

Beautiful people
You look like friends of mine
And it’s about time
That someone said it here and now
I make a vow that some time, somehow
I’ll have a meeting
Invite ev’ryone you know
I’ll pass out buttons to
The ones who come to show
Beautiful people
Never have to be alone
‘Cause there’ll always be someone
With the same button on as you
Include him in ev’rything you do
He may be sitting right next to you
He may be beautiful people too
And if you take care of him
Maybe I’ll take care of you
And if you take care of him
Maybe I’ll take care of you…

When I initially saw this image on Facebook a few days ago, I had to laugh, as I thought "That would have been me...part Batman and part faerie princess on her trusty steed, pedaling through the streets."   I was rather quirky, an 'alien baby left on my parents' doorstep', with otherworldy ideas,
