Message Music

Music is soul nourishing and the month of November offers a reminder that there is a huge buffet of  delicious, yummy, delectable, fat, calorie and cholesterol free  musical options. It is deemed  Positive Music Month by an organization call  The Positive Music Association.  Imagine if you will, a room filled wall to wall with musical selections, ranging from singer-songwriter folky to bluesy and funky, from dance-able pieces that set your toes a’tapping, to sweetly meditative strains. What each of these seemingly diverse styles have in common when offered by the PMA is that they  contain positive messages, designed to uplift and inspire. Think about the music you listen to. Is it reinforcing the life you wish to experience?  If your current diet is weighted heavily on self deprecating thoughts, destructive, racist, sexist, homophobic, violent messages, then I suggest that it is time to revamp your lyrical library.  I have heard people say that they listen to those types of music so that they can ‘get their anger out’. My contention is that immersing yourself in toxic music is no different than rolling around in a vat of acid.

Dr. Emoto, whose groundbreaking work called Messages From Water, subjected frozen water molecules to hateful, negative messages and positive, loving messages and witnessed twisted, distorted images vs. exquisite shapes with each group. He then played various types of music, ranging from  Bach to Beethoven to heavy metal songs. Guess what the outcome was? His contention is that since human beings contain 60-70% water, imagine what those messages and musical input are doing to us!

I know that when I listen to positive music in the car, regardless of what is going on around me, I can chill. Singing along, smiling, I breeze down the highway of life, even if the traffic happens to be bumper to bumper.

Some of my favorite musicians are part of the PMA, including Jana Stanfield, Lew Doty, Karen Drucker, Shawn Gallaway, David Wilcox, Elaine Silver, Michael Stillwater, Scott Grace, Charley Thweatt, Barry Goldstein, Donna Marie Cary. Anne Pogue is the Social Media Consultant and my experience with her is that she is the consummate cheerleader for message music.

There are some moments  when the petty, day to day annoyances melt away in the face of the fireball sun realization that life is fleeting, experiences are transient and people are on loan to us. Ecclectic Enthusiast
Recently I was speaking with someone who felt dismayed that she wasn't able to focus on any one career path, interest or purpose. She referred to herself as a "Doomed Dabbler", destined to wander aimlessly in the wilderness with no hope of finding refuge. As we spoke, within moments, a lightbulb wen

Woo woo vs. Whoohooo!
Once upon a time, I would have considered some of the events of my life to be  fodder for Twilight Zone episodes, with the theme song (do do do do do do do do~) playing in my head when they would occur. I didn't dare talk about them, out of concern for being thought weird or  committable

On Mothers Day, my son Adam took me to see Oz The Great and Powerful.  Having grown up watching the Wizard of Oz, I was eager to immerse myself in the prequel in which the Wizard takes on the mantel. Some critics have lambasted it, others have waxed poetic. This eternal child still
