Randy Jackson (“American Idol”) works to promote values-based family entertainment

posted by John W. Kennedy | 12:01pm Monday July 19, 2010

Randy Jackson, now looking forward to his tenth season as a judge on Fox’s landmark reality show American Idol, has joined the Walmart-P&G effort to develop and promote family-friendly TV movies.

Utilizing the singing talents of Jordin Sparks and Brooke White from AI, as well as other new artists, Jackson has produced soundtrack CDs based on the effort’s first two films, Secrets of the Mountain and The Jensen Project, both of which recently aired on NBC.

Jackson says he was eager to become involved in a project that promotes the sort of family entertainment he enjoyed growing up. He says the songs chosen for the CDs feature positive lyrics that are in keeping with the tone of the movies they’re an extension of. For more of Jackson’s thoughts on the project click here.

I recently spoke with Brooke White about her involvement with the project. Along with the opportunity to work with Jackson (who she expressed great respect for), she said she was excited to work on something so positive.

The singer, who placed fifth in Idol’s seventh season, says she grew up on family shows and would like to see more of them produced.  Among her favorite shows as a kid in Mesa, Arizona was the intelligently warm family dramedy The Wonder Years

Here she is performing Change which she sings on the Secrets of the Mountain CD.

Hey, there! "Catholics, Media & Culture" is now "Faith, Media & Culture"
Because so many of the faith and media stories covered involved other faiths as well, I asked for the name change.  You can find the old blog with the new name  here. Thanks for following me. Best, JWK Encourage one another and build each other up – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

The death of Bin Laden an opportunity to hit the reset button with each other
Osama Bin Laden is dead! Long live America! The masterful execution of the taking out of Osama Bin Laden by American forces under the leadership of the Obama Administration has helped our country recover some of that feeling of unity we had following 9/11. Not that we should thank Osama or anythi

Osama Bin Laden killed; Pope John Paul II beatified; William & Kate Wed
Hollywood Reporter asks How Will Osama Bin Laden Death Impact Kathryn Bigelow's 'Kill Bin Laden' Movie? Yes, that was my first thought too. Then there's this: Osama Bin Laden News Pre-Empts Donald Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice.' That actually was kind of poetic. Seriously though, this is good news

Author John Eklund brings a Catholic world view to "The Third Testament"
John Eklund's Catholic novel. Yesterday, I wrote in this space that people of faith need to stop complaining about the tone and quality of entertainment media (including TV, movies, music and books) and start creating alternatives. Now, I'm informed of one writer who is doing that. John Eklund, a
