Russ Mitchell was on to something big, and small, when the anchor ended the CBS Evening News with a segment on “extreme couponing” Saturday night.
Due to the rough economy, using coupons has become en vogue again as people look to save a few bucks, or more on groceries.
Even to the point where some people are stealing coupons out of other people’s Sunday newspapers as the piece pointed out.
Much more positively, some shoppers are saving 75 percent or more on their grocery tabs.
I am somewhere in between, as I often buy things on sale but only use a few coupons here and there.
I am missing out on something, unlike the two million or so viewers who tune in to Extreme Couponing on TLC.
I am not nothing … if that makes sense … if not honest in saying I have not watched the show yet but will give it a look at some point.

true….I utilize a pick up service for groceries and what I MAY start doing is do the list…THEN look for coupons that match what I have purchased…if that makes sense….

good stuff…cmsvmom…you seem to have a nice balance w/couponing….and it’s nobody’s business to comment on your binder…it’s admirable and smart to take advantage of coupons and I think some people are jealous of that. A few others are upset that they have to wait in line a minute-two longer behind couponers…but “thems the breaks” sometimes.

I am a couponer, have been for over 30 years, routinely save at least 50% off my bill. I am disgusted with this show. They stage conflict, they stage scenarios. These are not typical shopping trips, and the stores look the other way on their policies about limits. Now they want a shelf clearer, this is just not couponing etiquette – most of us pre order when we have huge amounts to buy. Their first season opened with a woman committing outright fraud, using the coupons for products other than what was specified on the coupon, taking advantage of a technical glitch – AND BEING ALL PROUD OF HERSELF FOR DOING SO.
I live alone and I stockpile and I am not ashamed or hoarding. I also donate. My stockpile has sustained me through illness and unemployment, and now that things are good but prices are going way up, the strategy of combining sales with store promos and coupons is really working for me.
I love couponing, and I get along great with the cashiers in my area, but I hate the way people stare at me now or make snide comments when they see me with my binder.

I use coupons once in a while. I just don’t have time to sit and look for them and cut them out and then buy based on the coupons. It’s a full-time job and I just don’t have that much time right now. Maybe when I’m retired I’ll take the time.
I prefer stores that just give you the coupon price.
