I’ve been meaning to write about this one for some time, but wasn’t quite sure how to address it.
Is the ad for Snickers, the one where two sharks “discuss” the difference of how people tasted, and decide the person who ate the candy bar tasted better, in bad taste, so to speak?
My first reaction was it was a very funny and clever ad.
Over time, especially as I heard about more shark attacks, I began to change my opinion.
I bet the ad ISN’T funny to anyone who has been attacked by a shark or their family members who have to deal with the ramifications of such an attack.
The ad has already had a good, long run but perhaps it’s time to pull it off the airwaves.
Am I, as I do at times, making too much of this?
What do you think?

it may appeal to our worse instincts….the commercial…because sadly my first reaction was to laugh but upon reflection I realized it was a cheap laugh I enjoyed…seems too controversial a way to sell a candy bar, right?

Can you imaging the backlash if Steve was not a white boy? It’s a stupid, twisted commercial that would only make a serial killer laugh.
It’s just wrong on so many levels.

I’ve been meaning to blog about this nasty commercial for some time too, but I’ll just leave my two cents. When you consider the morbid approach to selling a snickers bar, it’s an ugly commercial. Poor Steve has been basically murdered by a shark and is in the process of being digested for the pleasure of the shark and the survey. This might have worked better in cartoon format, but the death of these two innocent subjects is unsettling to say the least. Doesn’t make me want to go out and buy a snickers bar, that’s for sure! It DOES make me wonder what the ad firm is smoking though.

OK….we are going to part ways on this one Deb. I think it’s a little morbid to have the billboards of the people there and the woman running the “research group” nonchalantly talk about how they tasted. I initially thought it was funny too…same with my wife…but I have changed my mind.

I think they are hysterically funny ads! They are also one of my favorite ads. There will always be people who are offended, but most people that have a decent sense of humor will see this isn’t a slight to people who have been victims of shark attacks.
