There Is Relief Without DEET

Friday July 28, 2006

This year, I'm really appreciating Quantum's Buzz Away Extreme, a natural insect repellent that provides protection from ticks for two hours and sends mosquitoes, gnats, and fleas (fleas?) packing for three-and-a-half to eight hours! The oils of geranium, cedarwood, citronella, lemongrass, and peppermint create a great fragrance. I went to the health food store and asked the clerk in the vitamin/herb department which of the natural repellents worked longest and best. They sold me this. It works. Nicely asking the bugs to pass me by wasn't as successful a strategy, but at least I tried.

We have a horrible chigger infestation on our land in the country. Husband has the bites on his, er, places where the sun don't shine. We searched for a treatment that wouldn't hurt the dogs, butterflies, birds etc. and settled on pymethyrin (I know that isn't right, but I tried). So far, so good, I think..........>

Thank you this the essentials oils listed, the problem has been to find the citonlla in a form to put on your skin because it is pretty potient. They use pennyroyal in my cat's collar but there are warnings on. I think they should use tea tree and clove oil as well.Rosemary is good for irritation if you do get bite.>
