Send in a thousand grandmothers,
They will surely volunteer.
With their ancient wisdom flowing,
They will lend a loving ear.
First they’ll form a loving circle
Around the wounded wing,
Then contain the brutal beasts of war
Sweet freedom songs they’ll sing!
A lullaby much stronger
Than bombs and threats to kill,
A force unlike we’ve ever seen
Will break the murder’s will.
To the prisons we’ll invite them.
The most violent men will weep,
When a 1000 women hold them strong
And pray their souls to keep.
Let them rock the few who steal the most,
And rule with youthful charms,
So they’ll see the damage that they do,
And will fall into grandma’s arms.
Two thousand loving arms
If you think these women are too soft
To face the world at hand,
Then you’ve never known the power of love
And you fail to understand
An old woman holds a powerful force
When she no longer needs to please.
She can cut your shallow life to bits,
And bring you to your knees
We best get down on our knees
And pray for a thousand grandmothers!
Will you please come volunteer?
No longer tucked deep out of sight,
Will you bring your power here?
Will you bring your power here?

Beautiful–just beautiful! My Granny died this past February, but I think I’ll print this off and put it by her grave. I never really told her how much I appreciated her..>

Tell her now, Annapurna. It’s never the wrong time or too late to express love and appreciation. I believe she can hear you………>

I too am a grandmother…. I came to Canada 33 years ago from West Germany…I was a very young girl of 19 …my son was 10 month old upon our arrival in this country…I was determind to leave my home and make a new one where I was sure no war would touch my son…nor my future grandchildren… the future is here and my grandchildren are in the midst of a war…playing in their backyards almost unaware of what is going on not so far from their door… a hush hush war already waging within canadaian borders…a cancerous growth festering within our comunities…our schools riddled with racism amongst the students and teachers alike…intolerance for religious reference in anything public..so not to offend…instead of learning about all of the believes and realize that knowledge is power..ignorance spells defeat… we ignore poverty …not enough time in the day to assure our neighbour does not go hungry… I now realize that no matter where I would have gone in the world ..there was no escaping a war…we are all inhabitants of a planet…a gift which kept on giving regardless of abuse…as a global people we are leaving a world to our future without hope … Ignorance spells defeat…defeat spells death…>

I never had the opportunity to meet my grandmother because she died before I was born on my mother’s side. On my father’s side I meet my grandmother once and that was at my father’s funeral. However, I am a grandmother now and I cherish my all four of my grandchildren for they are important to me and I love them dearly. wb>
