Soy, Oh Boy

Thursday September 28, 2006

Sure, it's in my diet. But I'm pursuing less soy these days. Articles like this one have convinced me.

I drink organic skim/fat-free milk from local farms because I know the animals are treated well, and because I know exactly what is in the milk: milk, fortified vitamin d, one or two other listed ingredients that at least I know what it is Soymilk, on the other hand, often comes from places far away, contains a bunch of added stuff I have NO idea what it is, and is far more expensive.

Plus, soymilk is 10 calories more, has more fat, and contains iron. It doesn't matter if it messes up with my cycle, it's already messed up anyway from polycystic overies.

I'm also skeptical of soy given the confusion about healthy limits, side effects, or both. In fact, here's the counter-arguement to the down-with-soy article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1839434,00.html
