Kudos to RedState

and in particular kudos to Erick Erickson for taking a firm (albeit small) stand in recognition that the “Birthers” are just as crazy and harmful as the “Truthers” and deserve to be treated accordingly.

Banning crazies on your website is a good first step. Now, the conservative movement needs to hold its leadership to account on the issue. If not, then the politicians will continue to cultivate the crazies and undermine the conservative movement’s credibility as Erick fears.

Birther Candidates?

So where does this leave RedState with regards to birther politicians and candidates? Will RS support JD Hayworth? I know RS is endorsing Karen Handel in GA-GOV race, but what about Rep. Nathan Deal in the meantime?

I refuse to support anybody who gives the slightest indication that they might be a birther.

Good questions and laudable sentiments, indeed. If RedState is serious about Birthers then they need to take a firm stand where it counts, not just banning users but also targeting pro-Birther politicians and candidates. I’m not optimistic about them doing that – especially when the Queen Bee herself is making Birther noises – but we can hope.

And let’s just mention again – not that it matters to the irrationally obsessed – that Obama’s birth certificate exists and utterly refutes the birther thesis by virtue of its existence:
