American Muslims stand by President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton in strongly condemning the attacks on the US Embassies in Libya, Egypt and Yemen, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. At this time, American Muslims have the families of those lost in our thoughts and prayers. We honor them and their commitment. There is no justification for this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet.

American Muslims unequivocally support the right to free speech, and the responsibilities that come with it. We believe that we can defend freedom of speech and criticize bigotry. Just as we stand against anti-Semitism, we stand against anti-Muslim diatribes.

In Islam, there is no justification for violent acts of this kind. We believe in the peaceful example of the Prophet PBUH who said “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should say the good or remain silent.”

If you are an American Muslim and you agree, please post the above statement to your blog or Facebook page. Also, if you aree on Twitter, please join our Twitter campaign against religious violence using the hashtag, #NoToViolence.
