Are we just against women?

So what do you think? Is Clinton trailing Obama because she is a woman?

That's the new party line coming out of the Clinton camp, it would seem. The New York senator has been complaining about a "double standard" in the media, imposed by journalists, she claims, because of her gender. And now, at a major fundraiser in New York City last Thursday, famed recording artist Elton John jumped on the bandwagon.

John was reported by Newsday.com to have said that "gender discrimination" is behind Clinton's problems in the polls. His appearance on behalf of Hilary drew more than 5,000 people and raised $2.5 million for the Clinton campaign, the report said.

"I never cease to be amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some people in this country," John is reported by Newsday.com to have said. "I say to hell with them. ... I love you, Hillary, I'll always be there for you."

What do you think? Do you agree with Elton John? In Hillary Clinton behind in the polls because she is a woman?

And what about Obama's race? Do you think that is hurting him among some voters? Could the two prejudices be off-setting each other?

I am not meeting very many people -- none, actually -- who say they refuse to support Hillary because she is female. I don't know, maybe I run in fairly sophisticated circles, but the people I spend time with would never think of opposing Clinton on the basis of gender. Those of my friends who are opposing her are doing so for other reasons.

I also have not met one person yet who opposes Obama because of his race. So here's what I think. I think that the vast majority of Americans...

.... have grown up, matured a lot, and moved past such shallow considerations when deciding who to vote for as our next president. Are there still some people ignorant enough to use race or gender as a disqualifier? Of course there are. But my observation is that they are the huge minority. Huge.

Tell me I'm right about this.

Many comments pro and con regarding Neale Walsch taking another jab at Hillary's campaign. And rightfully so. however wrote that Hillary and Obama are "cloaking" themselves - and not showing their true nature to us was correct. That's obvious to anyone who's being an honest observer. Hillary just happens to be more "fake" than Obama - but not by much. The role of the Executive Branch of Gov't - as are the roles of the judicial and legis ...laid out within the US Constitution.

Here's what a citizen should be asking themselves right now.

Which candidate has shown by virtue of their actions the ability to uphold the Constitution of the USA ? [which by the way - is the oath that either Obama or McCain will take in November] Folks - that's it. It's not about HOPE or who makes TOO MUCH money - or who makes TOO LITTLE money - or who got the shaft. The President takes his/her oath of office to defend this nation and to uphold the Constitution. I suggest that everyone - including myself - go back and study the acts of the Constitution often - so we realize that the role of Gov't is NOT TO MAKE OUR LIVES MORE EQUAL TO THE GUY/GAL DOWN THE STREET. And that is basically all that Obama and Hillary have done as Senators. They insist of using Gov't to somehow balance the scales. That has been tried many times over many centuries - and always fails as a social policy [except in Norway and other Oil producing nations - where the gov't has so much oil money, they can easily support the masses]. Thank you and Neale for your writings. I may not agree - but I always respect our individual thoughts and expressions. Thank God we are free to have this dialouge.

Hi and yes I am a woman and no no one is going to come out and say because she is a woman I'm not voting for her but..... the media will make a remarks about her vulnerability, her humanity her toughness we have all heard this.Nothing close to this would be said of a man. To deny there is no prejudice in our country is being naive. I personally have experienced the degradation of being a single mother, a working mother and wife, and now a middle age divorcee with a high school education. As far as Obama to think that there are no white people out there who would no more vote for a black than an alien is more than naive. My neighbors still say the N word use the term sand Ners and many more lovely statements and I know of one man who is convinced that our economy has been ruined due to woman in the work force. Wake up and smell the roses because they stink in some peoples minds. Thank you for hearing me out and I would love to be proven wrong. CC

Mel, Rainbows and flowers to you!

OOPS! I was wrong yet again! No, you didn't DIRECTLY compare Neale to a demagogue/dictator or a cult leader. The implications were clear in both of your posts. Congratulations on your subtlety.

I don't recall feeling that your responses posed any "difficulty" for me, rather amusement. Again you assume so much based on so little. The one detail that you failed to respond to was why you feel so comfortable passing your judgments on others yet offer no true opinion of your own (about the candidates)except to say we all have deep seated prejudices. So it is easier to be above the fray and not offer your own assessment of the political picture? That's pretty convenient.

I do have to giggle at your assumption that I exist "in a bubble of like minded people". An interesting notion but you couldn't be more wrong. I have lived in many different communities of mixed races and economic backgrounds. My family, friends and associates are everything from artists, poets, writers and actors to maintenance workers, contractors, truck drivers and sandwich makers. These people are from just about every background of belief and non belief and are both conservative, liberal and everything in between. It's a pretty big bubble.

I love a good challenge and never shy away from debate. As mentioned, I have been on both sides of the political divide and have never shied away from a lively discussion of any topic. So, you have not made me uncomfortable or upset, Mel, just given me a laugh or two. I sure hope it wasn't your intention to atagonize me, that just doesn't work:)

Of course, I wish you peace, Mel...I'll add happiness and contentment just to round it out. As for me, I never said I didn't need peace...yet it seems to keep coming in abundance.

There is no difference between a matriarch and patriarch except one has a vagina and the other a penis.

I am not an American but since this campaign has been soo publicisedi gotta agree with one comment here that the impornant thig is to look at the candidates and decide who will uphold your constitution. On Hillary being discriminated because of her gender i think at this point she is using every weapon at her disposal as many other candidates do
