It wasn't until the outbreak of E.coli at the Jack-in-the-Box hamburger chain in the Pacific Nortwest, that "food safety" became an awareness of this country and of our many restaurant chains. Today you see restaurant employees wearing gloves, wearing aprons etc. Why it takes several deaths and many sicknesses to "shake us awake" is because many are unawake and unaware to many things. Even then it took many people to push for change in the food industry and today our food is much more safe than it was before we "knew" it could possibly be unsafe.
Change is life and God is Life. We are all One and we are Life. Acceptance to change is the path to peace within. We must first go within, or we go without. I like the question, "What would love do now?" If we ask this at the juncture of every decision, it would help us choose the highest choices for ourselves and for us All.
Love to all!

This is one reason why Barack Obama is so appealing to the masses. those who look outside of themselves for "change" - because they feel as though they do not have the power to "change" their own lives.
WE ! are stubborn
What prevents inner city youths from changing their lives - and actually going to school instead of dropping out - when they can see end result of dropping out ?
It is because people like Obama and other Democratic leaders have hoisted the notion that in order to "change" - people have to first rely on others to facilitate that change.
When in fact - it is the other way around.
Here in the United States of America - their is no shortage of opportunity to earn money - yet in order to do so - it requires CHANGE for people used to the idea that Democrats will take care of them.
Change your life - AND YOU CAN DO IT ! - don't tell me you can't ! - and be grateful for living in the USA [flawed as we are] - where you CAN DO IT !
There is no better place on the planet than the USA to PURSUE CHANGE.

One reason why we resist change is because "change" is often time used by incompetent leaders as the rationale to do stupid things. As such, by nature I think we are more prone to analyze change before jumping in.
For example - When Al Gore and BIG ETHANOL jammed corn biofuel down our throats - and said that anyone who opposed it was "resistant to change" - and stuck in the mud - we all went along with it like sheep.
Let's face it - those of us who are not farmers didn't know that growing corn involves so much pesticides, land erosion and the elimination of planting other wheat grains - and it's only now that we know.
NOW WE CAN'T GET AL GORE TO ADMIT THIS HUGE NIGHTMARE is causing a major world food crisis.
Using our food for fuel was a stupid change.
Now that we know transporting the corn from fields to factories is way less efficient than drilling for oil and piping it.
When we all applauded [including myself] the banning of DDT - we had no idea that 30 million children would die from malaria transported by mosquitos that are infesting Africa. And since silly mosquito nets that liberal propose are useless - we need to now convince - GUESS WHO? The Al Gore types that DDT must be manufactured at once !!
NO CHANGE -
When we decided to "change" by busing our children in the cities way out of their neighborhoods - we didn't realize that it would ruin our inner cities. And that we were actually creating another huge set of problems.
The list could go on forever.
When "leader" and politicians propose artificial "change" not driven by a demand - it always fails.

Hello Stephen Arthur Murphy - you write -
"It wasn't until the outbreak of E.coli at the Jack-in-the-Box hamburger chain in the Pacific Nortwest, that "food safety" became an awareness of this country and of our many restaurant chains".
ACTUALLY
We had been inspecting food processing, storage, handling and serving for decades. Yes we did learn from Jack-In-Box - but it wasn't like the US was having all sorts of people dying from contaminated food.
The vast majority of the planet my friend Stephen Arthur Murphy - eats foods all the time - with tons of bacteria on it.
What happened at JackBox was not good for those who got e-coli - however, I think we should chalk it up to "things that happen in life" - and not blame anything or anyone for failures - and learn.
You wrote that it takes deaths and sicknesses to "shake us awake" because we are unawake and unaware. WELL you could be right on that my brother. And thanks for your kind words.
My response to you was only because I know the food service industry in the US was the safest on the planet when JNB hit.
What do you think of my idea ...
Inspect every restaurant once a year or whatever.
AND EVERY RESTAURANT MUST THEN KEEP THE SCORE OF THAT INSPECTION POSTED AT THEIR FRONT DOOR - ON A SIGN THAT IS 20"X30".
Can you imagine that ?
Thats what I call awareness.

I really don't know why we resist change. I think we find security in things staying the same even when we know it's time to move on.
Every moment of every day has been different from the last. Change is the only constant thing.
Why do some families only vote for one politcal party, or only believe it one particular faith? Some things are ingrained in our conciousness from day one. If we're told for 20 years that we will fail if we try something different we will be a bit reluctant to make that change.
However, we are much larger, much wiser than our initial programing. We have the choice, but really wanting to stay the same is not much of a choice and we never really can stay the same anyway. We are always evolving, always changing... even my dad.

The concept of change could merely be the tip of the iceburg. Below the surface we have the mixtures about the Self: self-doubt, comparison with others, lack of trust of our own decisions/likes and dislikes, wanting to be accepted......basically FEAR. The coin of change, the 2 flip sides: FEAR and, what shall we call it, bravery, confidence, honoring the Self!! I often remind myself, "What if there were no such thing as fear??!" Still scary, but I push myself to move forward with my idea, and usually feel the better for it; using techniques for "coping" with criticism from the masses; Perhaps I'm around the wrong masses for me...I'm glad I found this new "group"...I continue to consider the Conversations series as my "new Bible." I practice not allowing others to steal my joy.

Life is a pusher. It pushes us into chnge. Our mind is a thinker. It points us toward change. The spirit is restless and demands change. And everyday we live is a changing experience, sometimes so subtle we take no note of it. When our will effects a change for us, we know discomfort. Old habits are broken. When awareness sets change on our doorstep, we trip over it and feel displacement. Seemingly challenge and change go hand and hand. We are God's changeables, and He is our changeable when we trace the outline of His existence as we know it. Reflection gives us the ability to breathe deeply air fresh from the spirit and retrace God's likeness in the present.

The "holy" which means basically "otherness", we seek because we crave change. We crave change because we are alive. Attracted to "altered states" and "spirit worlds" until we realize, this is the other world too. Addicted to "change" until that changes, seeing and taking comfort in the constant unchanging nature of all that changes, ( not merely that it changes, is changing, and will change, but that it IS )

Egaves, Hello! If you interpreted my message as blaming anything or anyone, I apologize. I was just stating the facts of what happened. Of course many people were working with what was known at the time prior to the JnB situation. Since that scare, our food industry including all segments, not just restaurants have improved overal food safety. I agree our country has the safest food in the world - as long as people follow the guidlines set forth by the health departments.
Your idea of posting a health dept. score as a sign on the door or window of all food service establishments is a great idea. The state of NC does this now, although it isn't 20 x 30. I know many people that walk up to a restaurant, and if they see a score below B, they don't go in!
Yes I can imagine your thought of scores on doors, and inspections every year. The more we know about these situations and procedures, the more this will cause more change. Power to the people!
Holly, a thought appeared when I read your post. Neale says in many of his books to consider the material in any book carefully. Internalize the messages and find our own truths. He writes that no one book has all the answers, not even the bible, and certainly not his books either. Each writer sees things through their filters of life experiences and we only allow certain things through those filters. The more open a writer is with their thoughts and ideas, the more they let in through their filters. Neale certainly is open minded and that is why his books hit a home run with many of us.
I have read and re-read his books, as well as man others by other authors of "new age" material, and they are all inspirational. Many of the messages are similar and this provides comfort. The notion that we are all One - is ubiquitous and has been around for thousands of years.
I believe there is no "bible" or book or person that has all the answers so we are to discern for ourselves, our own truths.
Love to all.
