Conversations with God

Why you came to this earth

Monday May 5, 2008

There is a reason you came to the earth. Your soul knows this reason, but your mind may not, because your mind may be thinking about it in all the wrong ways...

(Last Friday I began here a series of blogs on life purpose and life mission. You may find it useful to refer back to that blog to "catch up" on where we have been and where we are going here.)

My life mission is to change the world's mind about God. What's yours? I asked this question last week, and the first response I received in the Comments Section was this, from Josh...

Well if I had already tapped into why my soul came here to this earth to be and do what it came here to be and do I would already be doing it, but I'm not, all I know is that my soul came here to evolve and experience something, I only wish I knew what it was it came here to experience.

Josh, what I want to tell you is that millions of people feel exactly the way you do. Millions. In fact, most of the people I meet -- and I do a lot of traveling, all over the world -- tell me the same thing. "If I only knew...if I only knew..."

I want to share with you now what I share with them:

There is nothing to know, Josh. There is no 'blackboard in the sky' on which it is written:

JOSH IS A FINE PERSON WHO LIVED IN THE FIRST PART OF THE 21ST CENTURY WHO:

...followed by a blank line that God has filled in, with different words for every person....and all you have to do is find that blackboard...

That's not how it is, Josh. God is not sitting up there with a purpose in mind for each of us, our job being to discover what that is. Why would God do that? Why would God be so cruel?

"Ha! I've got a great purpose for Josh...but I'm not going to tell him what it is. Hey, angels, come on over here! Look down there! See Josh? Look at him scrambling around down there trying to find the purpose I gave him. Think he'll find out what it is before he dies? Ha! This is great!"

That's not how it is, Josh. That's just not how it is. Conversations with God tells us: "Life is not a process of discovery, life is a process of creation."

There is no purpose, set in heaven, for you to discover, there is only an opportunity for you to create. Here's the extraordinary news, Josh: With regard to "what it was you came here to experience"...you get to decide.

And here's the even better news: There's no limit to what you can decide.

The question is not, "What am i supposed to be doing here?" The question is, "What do I choose to be doing here? What do I want to be doing here?"

My own life mission -- to change the world's mind about God -- is not something that was "given" me. It is something I gave myself.. I decided that on my own. Nobody told me to do it.

You get to make your own determination about why you are here, Josh, and what you came to experience. That is what life is for. God gave you the gift of life just so that you could make this very decision -- and then live it out as your functioning reality.

More on this tomorrow...

Hello.

I am reading these posts with great interest, this is not too different to the discussion on 'what is your mission'.

Be it mission or purpose, we are all looking for something, to either define ourselves by or define what we perceive as happening to us.

I agree with Josh, there is SOMETHING I am meant to be. This Something that can enable me to live my life at the Highest and Best. A Something that affords me the time and space to be in touch with my God-Self along with paying Bills and generally being part of the rat race. Does living a life with God automatically mean there is separation from the world in general? If we choose to Walk with God will we always be at the end of questions from family and friends who think we are opting out ???

My Highest thought for myself is to always know and experience my unity with God. Unfortunately that doesnt pay the bills.

I ask the question again, does God have a recruitment agency? I'd like to know what I should be Doing. The answer of 'I can Do or Be anything I choose to Do or Be' is just to vague, considering I have only discovered that I actually have Value!

I do envy Jim, in his post about music - it seemed like a wonderful way to spend each day.

Be well

P

To AussieCowboy....I reread your post several times, debating if I should respond or not and finally decided that the fact I'm sitting here debating means that I'm supposed to, so here goes....

All too often in life people get stuck in the idea that they "can't" do something because of physical disabilities/limitations. It's this belief that blocks them more so than the physical problems. If you have it in your head that you "can't" because of your heart problems, then you won't even try. But if you can view your heart problems as a speed-bump, an inconvenience, an obstacle to be overcome or gone around, then you can turn your attention to "what you CAN do". Perhaps working the land as a farmer is too big a goal for your heart at this time, but that doesn't mean you can't do something similar on a smaller scale. Try raised-bed gardening where everything is condensed into a small area that won't stress your heart so much. Or build a small green house and grow flowers to share with the local retirement home. Grow plants in pots in your front yard. Basically, find a smaller version of "farming" that you CAN physically manage. Mind over matter, my friend. If you don't mind, it don't matter.

I was born without a left hip socket. Multiple surgeries made it possible for me to walk, but medical errors also resulted in nerve damage. My parents were told I'd be crippled by arthritis by 18. Instead I went on to have a lengthy career training jumping horses. Painful? Yes. I can't even tell you how excruciating it was at times. There were days I had to go up and down stairs on my butt because my hip wouldn't support me. But I found ways to do what I wanted to do. So what if I did it differently than everyone else? The joy of what I was doing by far outweighed the pain of doing it. What I learned about healing horses combined with help and guidance from friends, I learned about kinesiology and "positive visualization" and now I am pain-free and have been completely off all forms of pain and anti-inflammatory medications for nearly 15 years. Current xrays of my hip show IMPROVEMENT and HEALING. I'm 44 now.

My father suffered a serious spinal injury in his job as a construction worker that ended his career permanently. And yet, he built a house for he and my mother. At times crawling on his hands and knees, dragging a 2x4 behind him. It took years to finish the house, but he did it and it's beautiful. It's a 2-story, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, btw.

I know a lot of people who do very little or nothing because they're stuck in this idea that they "can't" until the pain goes away or until some other physical inconvenience is resolved. And of course, nothing gets better, nothing changes, because they're just sitting there waiting for it to get better "so they can". Motion in any direction is better than no motion at all. Find something you CAN do that is a step in the direction you would like to be going, and then do it. The joy of doing it will be good for your heart....

Tap into the strength you acquired from the experience of being an 11yo fending for yourself. Your journey must have been difficult, but you are still here. That means you have a lot of "try" in you. Don't give up now, use the strength and ingenuity that experience gave you.

And I don't mean to sound coarse here but think about it...if you're out working in your garden (or greenhouse) and your heart gives out; you'll die doing what you love. Wouldn't that be better than spending the rest of a longer life feeling angry and resentful about not being able to do what you want to be doing? I can assure you that all that anger and resentment isn't doing your heart any favors...

(((hugs))) I'm cheering for you! :)

I am amazed at how clearly God communicates with us when we but ask for answers. Thank you Sallie for writing your reply. I happened upon it "randomly" (not that anything EVER happens randomly :D) and it was exacly what I needed to hear. God bless you (all of you!)

Namaste,
Julie
