And now it is time to heal, and time to end the division, and time to rally behind the two people who have been elected to lead the United States and, in many ways, the free world: Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Now it is time to set aside partisan bickering and political posturing and raise our voices in unison for all that our hopes stand for, for all that our wishes encompass, for all that our dreams entail.
Now it is time to become One American Family, one truly United States, and work together for peace, for prosperity, for the dignity of all people, and for the future of the world.
We have all had our say. You have had yours and I have had mine. As Sen. John McCain graciously said last night, “the American people have spoken, and they have spoken very clearly.”
The selection has been made, and now we can move forward as a group and give this decision every chance to play itself out for the good of all our people. It is time now to end any griping or complaining and to avoid becoming part of the problem rather than part of the solution. It is time to stop saying whatever we can to be discouraging and doing whatever we can to be obstructing. The choice of behaviors is ours.
I have just come back from Europe on Monday, and I can tell you that the people there are rejoicing today. A survey on Sunday in Denmark showed 85% of the people favoring the man who American demonstrated yesterday that it also hugely favored. In France a few days earlier the figure was 95%. A survey of 22 nations overseas by CNN in the past few days showed that our new President-Elect was favored by the majority of people in every country – and in all but a tiny handful of the other countries in the world.
Barack Obama won every one of the so-called Battleground States. He won Virginia. He won Florida. He won Pennsylvania. He won Ohio. He won Colorado. He won Nevada. We won New Mexico. He even won Indiana–which, like Ohio and Virgina and Florida, have been reliably Red for so long.
There can no longer be any serious argument about who America preferred in this election. Mr. Obama — President-Elect Obama — won every Swing State in the country, and many of the crucial Red (formerly) States. The victory was decisive. Not marginal, not questionable, but obvious and decisive and, as John McCain himself said last night, “very clear.”
And so, something very special happened in the United States last night, and now, if all of the American people will give Barack Obama their honest and true support in the months ahead, something very special can continue to happen. And America can once again be one of the true lights of the world.
Let us all congratulate John McCain for a campaign well fought, and Barack Obama for a campaign well won. Mr. McCain’s concession speech yesterday was extraordinarily gracious – as befitting a man who truly puts his country first. So let us now do as John McCain himself invited and urged us last night to do: let us move forward together, and make history together, as we recreate ourselves anew, in the next grandest version of the greatest vision ever we held about who we are – as a nation, as a people, as a species inhabiting a wonderful place called the Earth.

Yesterday I spent the day being an election judge. I got up at 3:30 a.m to be at the county clerks office at 5:00 a.m. From there I was sent to a precinct I normally don’t work in. I usually work at the city building where there’s a Birkenstock, Lotus-pants, “intellectual” crowd of voters. (This is a University town in central Illinois.) Yesterday I was sent to a polling place that is a church called the Vineyard: how fittingly poetic for the occasion. This church is located in an area where there is a large black constituency. I wish you could have seen the pride in these peoples eyes. I wish you could have seen the excitement of little children waiting with their parents. Of course, every child who passed me got an “I Voted” sticker. Seven year olds told me all about the mock elections they had at their school and who they had voted for. It was so much fun to see fellows who looked like Fifty-cent at the polls voting for the first time.
At the end of the evening when we were counting the paper ballots I noticed that some of the ballots didn’t have a single other vote on them but Barack Obama. We had a 75% turn out in a precinct that was lucky to see 15% in years past. Was this an amazing moment in history? Oh yes…
I am so proud and pleased to see the old McCain back. I have never doubted that he would become a valuable ally to Barack Obama after Obama was elected president. Now it’s time to let this all sink in, breathe and savor the moment. We ought to be very proud of ourselves. I know the rest of the world is very proud of us. It’s looking now like we’ve finally put our money where our mouth is–what there is left of it.

No Neale. No longer. The division just began. You are not one with us, nor is anyone whom voted Obama.
Depart from me, for your ways bring death and you knew Him not.

NOTE FROM NEALE: How sad. How utterly sad. No one who voted for Obama — not a single, solitary person — is a good human being? Gosh, it is just so remarkably sad that real, live human beings actually think this way. If this is Christianity at its best, I can understand why so many millions have run away from it. Of course, we know that this is not. This is Christianity at its worst.

“Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Friends,
Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.
In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime.
There was another important “first” last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday.
It’s been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That’s because most Americans haven’t really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here’s their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter.
But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country’s greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me.
We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, “gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?” Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We’ve entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.
An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible.
We really don’t have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard.
I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It’s been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won’t be easy.
But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow.
Yours,
Michael Moore”

It certainly is a victory. However, as is in most elections – let us not forget almost 1/2 the country did not vote for Obama.
This electoral college ‘victory’ is decisive but it is not that ‘America’ voted overwhelmingly his way. There is a long road ahead – just looking at the posts here shows not everyone will ‘come along.’
As for the world – please, Denmark? France? Let’s tackle Russia – they went on last night to say the US is to blame for the global economic climate (not once thinking their new-found capitalist greed had anything to do with it????) They claim the US started the Georgia conflict. Putin sitting smugly in the front row – as if he still doesn’t run the show.
This is ‘the world.’ The French waffle on a daily basis. They still owe the US war reparations from TWO world wars (Japan and Germany 2x, repaid). I truly don’t care what they think. They are a non-issue.
Japan. They pretty stoked. Let’s hope the US doesn’t disappoint.
Koreas. This will be interesting.
China. Who knows? I think they’re worrit their ‘free ride with inferior products’ is behind them.
The Middle East. Who knows? That deadly quagmire will not be changed by one person.
But it’s a beginning. A new start. Eventually we can make a difference.

Yes, it is a time for healing! But let us not forget what really needs healing. The vitriol of the campaign and even the comments of ‘Your Name Here’ are indicative what really needs healing. And that is the separation belief systems still endemic within the human psyche.
‘Them over there’ are jubilant this morning vs. ‘them over here’ who are despondent today. The system is still broken if those in power are not truly coming from ‘we are all one’. If the change they are absolutely going to try and move toward is not based upon what serves the regular people of the world, instead of only those in power, then we will not see any real improvement.
I invite everyone to still be conscious that the change needs to be daily in your individual lives and in how you meet and deal with everyone with whom you interact with, moment by moment. That is where the tire meets the road.
The honeymoon will be a short one. I am looking forward to continuing to serve my fellow man as I serve myself and watch its effect on the powers that be.

I don’t think the election of an American president has ever been accompanied with such jubilation from around the world. And like it or not, the USA is no island, separate from the rest of us. We truly are all one, and this election makes the world a better place for all of us – it is the triumph of hope over fear. I wish Obama and Biden all the Love and Light in the world – they have a very difficult task ahead of them. Difficult, but please God, not impossible.

President Barack Obama says:
“So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, its that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers – in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people.
Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House – a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, ‘We are not enemies, but friends…though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection.’ And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.
And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world – our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down – we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security – we support you. And to all those who have wondered if Americas beacon still burns as bright – tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.
For that is the true genius of America – that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.”
WoW…The choice is still in each individual’s hand to choose a better world. But the overwhelming tide is turning towards unity. The collective conscience has spoken clearly as well. Those still clinging to the angry fearful doctrines as reflected by ‘Your Name’ will simply be caught up in the flood of change all around them. And hopefully at some point they will choose to see that the only danger at hand is their own belief in it.
This is a beautiful new day. My being rejoices that We have chosen HOPE and Light over fear. Blessings to all, including those who are still consumed by fear. May love and peace and hope consume you instead. There is no word big or beautiful enough to express. but… LOVE.

Yes We Can! Thank you, God bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.”

I graduated from U.C Berkeley this past May. During my matriculation I wondered, “Where is the outrage? Where is the action? And what is the nature of change?” The nature of change, for me, was a rather looming question. There was so much going on in the world, and so little action happening. Two wars on, a possible third on the way, the economy melting – and the campus was silent. A school that was the epicenter of the civil rights movement in the United States, was apathetic and immobilized. I became bitter and despondent; what’s the point, since it won’t change, since we don’t seem willing to change it, but willing to continue the politics of fear and hate, then let it burn…let it ALL burn.
Last night when Obama had a resounding, overwhelming victory, me and my friends ventured out, not to celebrate but to buy some food. Downtown Oakland, where I live, was going mad. I was worried, because the media made it clear that Ohio (as well as Oakland) were issued riot gear, in case ‘the animals’ go mad and burn down their cities in rage: http://communityvaluesvote.blogspot.com/2008/11/ohio-police-ordered-to-have-riot-gear.html
However, people were smiling, skipping, waving at each other, honking the horns, dancing in the street, greeting each other. We drove down the main street that extended to the Berkeley Campus, and all down the road, everyone was greeting each other, waving, smiling and cheering. Thousands of people, so many people we had to park. We joined the crowd, walking through Berkeley. Downtown Berkeley streets were shut down, no cars, but filled with thousands of people; but there was no disorder or chaos as predicted. Instead people were high-fiving the police in JOY! We walked with thousands of cheering people through Berkeley, and then through the campus. In my entire school career there, I have never seen so many people en masse under one banner. It was exciting and invigorating. The crowd was chanting yes we can, yes we can! The crowd stopped at a center point in campus, ironically, in front of the LeConte Hall, the building where Oppenheimer (the father of the atomic bomb) taught. People were climbing the towers, and then someone lifted something up, it was carried along the crowd, up to the students that had scaled the walls so they could wave the object in pride; the object was the American flag.
It was at this point where I could literally feel my consciousness shift. It was like I was a gong that was just hit with a mallet. My mind and body resonated when a thought occurred to me; The history of this school was the birth place of the free speech and civil rights movement in the US, where thousands of people were enraged and made it known. They overwhelmed the police, marched in anger, and in protest to the war. In that era, the American flag was burned. And there I was, but something different was happening. The American flag was being celebrated. There has been a shift in the way my generation makes change. I was thinking that change had to come in the form that it was in previous generations. I didn’t recognize the change because it didn’t appear to use as what it ‘used’ to look like. But, something has changed. Throughout the war, there was very little reaction from the student population, nothing compared to the 60′s, so we assumed that the generation was apathetic. I did too, and subsequently thought that nothing was going to change. Seeing the transition and the reaction of the population was mind bending, and altered me forever. What I realized was that the change had already happened, but just had not yet been expressed. Perhaps change doesn’t come, necessarily, by violence, or persuasion. Perhaps we are in an ever-present state of becoming, and the ‘change’ is the exteriorization of ‘who we really are’. Now it feels as if something has shifted, not only in me, but the world. It feels as the sleepers have awakened.

Hi!
I was really hoping and praying for love of all people in the world to win on this elections in everyone, president candidates too…both of them…no more fear, no more wars – NOW. We are all together in this.
I had very interesting dreams this night. I dreamt about our (Slovenian) former president Drnovsek who died early this year and was really inspiration for all of us in Slovenia and across the borders, and today’s president Turk.
Just before I woke up, I saw USA president elections…and they were saying: Please welcome the new president of United States of America, Barack Obama!
And when I woke up, angels said: see, love won!
Obama’s great victory speech:
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/11/05/raw-data-barack-obamas-victory-speech/
I especially like next words:
…But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to. It belongs to you. It belongs to you. …
…our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared…
…And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too. …
… But I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you, especially when we disagree. And, above all, I will ask you to join in the work of remaking this nation, the only way it’s been done in America for 221 years — block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand. …
… It can’t happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice. …
… In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people…
… This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can. …(we agree on that, Susan!)
and many others…
Truth is one and has no name, let’s be on it’s way!
Change is comming and I’m really truly glad for it!
Love to all voters of America, to our new president, Biden, McCain, Palin, Neal, all of us!
Ov, and welcome, Alenka!!! At least someone from Slovenia!

Soooo…where do I sign the impeachment petition?
No, no, I’m sorry. How partisan of me. Mea Culpe. Do forgive. I do applaud the historic nature of the election and with most Americans, I breathe a little easier with the notion that in America it is really true that anyone (no matter what their race, creed, or color) can work hard, apply themselves and reach the highest heights. We’re moving a little closer to the beautiful dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. With God’s help, we will be better for it.
Congratulations President Ellsworth Toohey–err, I mean, Barack Obama.
Heres hoping he does right by ALL of us.

Thank you Deb…I wish the same for you. All is well here.
My point was simply to ask if President Elect Obama would be given the same support that President Bush received from citizens that did not support him on the previous two elections.
This nation remains today essentially 50/50 in political positions. Indeed, I want President Elect Obama to succeed.
I think the most disappointing aspect of this blog is the fact that Mr. Walsch felt the need to turn it into a political rally for the candidate of his choice. And that’s fine, it is his choice.
I was very fortunate to discover his writing on spirituality and I do now in my heart it it time to “move along” to my own discovery process.
Good Luck to all of you in the future.
