Love Is for Losers

posted by Karen A. Kay

Valentine's Day for Singles at Tarot.comI’ve been single on Valentine’s Day — plenty of times. But honestly, I wasn’t always such a good sport about it.

There was a lot of whining and crying and angry sputtering on those heartbroken holidays … and once I even took a sledgehammer to a great big chocolate heart. But if you find yourself in that same Loveless Boat this year, well, suck it up. Take it from someone who’s been there: Being single on Valentine’s Day ain’t that bad!

I know, I know. I do understand how lonely and depressing it can be and I realize you’re probably not interested in hearing it. So I won’t preach. But I will tell you this: Love is in the air right now, so if you get out of the house and socialize and keep a positive outlook, you might just meet someone special on this day.

Venus is making a sextile to the bold Aries Moon on Valentine’s Day, which means that if you make a courageous move in the name of love, you just might have some luck on this very day!

A number of years back on a year when I was single and Valentine-free, I threw a party I dubbed “Love Is for Losers” and invited all my single friends, and I told them to bring all of their single friends. We didn’t let anyone in the door who was involved in a relationship, and the house filled up quickly with all kinds of people who wanted to mingle.

Sure, there were a few creeps in the crowd. But that night I witnessed two close friends meet men they soon began long-term relationships with, and I actually met a fella that night, too. It was short-lived, but it turned my Valentine’s Day frown upside down.

If you’re single and stressing, the thing to remember is that love is worth celebrating — even if your greatest love is YOU! No, strike that, I should say ESPECIALLY if your greatest love is YOU!

Because the truth is, love is for winners, and we all know it. Now get out there and do what you gotta do!

Don’t Give Anything Up!

posted by Karen A. Kay

Planet Saturn at Tarot.comIt’s Fat Tuesday, and everywhere I go people are talking about “giving things up.” But frankly, the Astrology of the day is really about NOT giving things up.

Many people are partying for Mardi Gras today, and indulgence is part of that. It’s about enjoying all the abundance they’ll be sacrificing in coming weeks. But the planets aren’t in as much of a party mood today.

Mercury is making a trine to hardworking Saturn now, which is all about getting serious and focusing and solving your problems. But the good news is, the reason to do this now is so that you don’t have to give anything up later!

Saturn is the planet of Karma, which states that if you put in the work you’ll reap the rewards.

So maybe instead of over-indulging today with a plan to give things up tomorrow, you can instead take a closer look at your life now and find a way to get more from it — not less.

That’s what I plan to do, anyway!

Should a Pig Date a Rat?

posted by Karen A. Kay

Chinese Compatibility Meter at Tarot.comIn honor of Chinese New Year, which officially kicked off with the New Moon on Sunday, February 10, I’m learning more about Chinese Astrology and its zodiac of animal signs.

I’m a Pig, as I’ve mentioned before, in regard to both my Chinese zodiac sign AND the number of spring rolls I can consume in one sitting.

And recently I learned that my boyfriend is a Rat.

Aren’t they all, you ask? Heh heh.

But seriously, in Chinese Astrology the Pig is known for being stubborn and honest, sensual and energetic, persuasive and perceptive. OK! I’ll take it! I’d like to think that description suits me.

And the Rat is known for being hardworking, practical, conservative with money and charming, yet unpredictable because they have a secrets and hidden passions lurking beneath their cool exterior. Well, that sounds pretty much like my own mysterious Rat for sure.

The question that leaps to my mind immediately is, “Should a Pig date a Rat?!” I was dying to know, mostly because we come up as a compatible match in Western Astrology and I wanted to see if it would be the same in Chinese Astrology. So I went to the free Chinese Compatibility Meter at Tarot.com and plugged us in.

It turns out the answer is YES! The Pig and the Rat make a wonderful pair, either as friends or lovers. It is said they love to make each other laugh, will share financial abundance and sensual pleasures. Ooh la la. The only downside was that this couple would have a messy house, but I think I can live with that — especially if it’s because we’re tossing each others’ underpants about. Ooh la la, indeed.

If know your friends’ or lover’s birthdays you can get the scoop, too. Just plug ‘em in and find out how your animal signs align. It’s a fun way to celebrate this Year of the Black Water Snake!

It’s a Wild New Moon!

posted by Karen A. Kay

New Moon in Aquarius HoroscopesDo you ever have those days when you’re so enthusiastic that you get carried away by some idea that seems brilliant … only to wake up the next day and go, “OMIGEEEE, what was I thinking?”

Well, get ready for another day just like that, because the New Moon in Aquarius on Sunday, Feb. 10 is going to spark all kinds of offbeat ideas we may think are genius until our optimism wears off.

New Moons are always about new beginnings, and with this one in future-minded Aquarius  at the same time Mercury makes a challenging square with expansive Jupiter, I’m pretty sure the things we’ll want to start may be a bit unusual.

I can just see myself waking up Sunday morning and thinking, “I know! I’ll open up a clothing boutique for kittens! I’ve always thought that would be fun, yet unrealistic. Yet now I’m quite sure it will succeed!”

And no offense to any of you cat clothing boutique owners out there, but I don’t think this is the best idea even if it seems like it on Sunday morning.

My New Moon in Aquarius Horoscope says I should try to get out of town or make connections with faraway places. I can’t really get out of town, but fortunately Sunday is also Chinese New Year, so maybe I can connect with a foreign feast instead. Chinese food here I come!

By the way, Venus and Saturn are making a square on the same day of this New Moon that is also supposed to stir up some relationship issues. But I’m hoping my only relationship issue that day will be who gets the last spring roll. ME!
