Good grief!

Tuesday May 9, 2006

How bad has the military recruiting situation gotten? So bad that recruiters bullied an autistic young man who didn't even know there was a war going on into signing up.

Sonetka, you hit the nail on the head. Military recruiters are and have been under an incredible amount of pressure for many years to fill their quotas. IMO, this has not changed or worsened since 9/11 and Iraq, but stories like this are a lot "sexier" now than they were in previous years.>

Well, how do you explain this?

WASHINGTON, May 10, 2006 All four services exceeded their active-duty recruiting goals in April for the 11th consecutive month and remain ahead of their year-to-date goals, defense officials announced today.

I'm sure it's because they are signing up bunches of autistic or mentally retared 18 year olds.

The fact that you are upset with the Bush administrations prosecution of th Iraq war does not mean it is reasonable or just to highlight every negative story as indicative of the gross incompetence of the administration, the Pentagon, or the military. Have some balance and intellectual integrity, for crying out loud.

Good grief is right.>

I'm all for "bulling bosses" being repremanded and sued but what about "bulling recruiters" the situation is much worse since thay pretend they are recruiting you when they are duplicitously bad-mouthing and intimidating you from being submitted for jobs that would otherwise be a good match. Instead they submit their friends, relatives or cronies.

An important question I have is will the anti-bullying laws (soon to take effect) also apply to recruiters (like DMOC-Inc., www.dmoc-inc.com) who bully talent applying for positions, and proceed to either submit resumes of their cronies, family members, or worse yet, submit to others who are paying large hidden fees to the recruiter? I felt compelled to send a communications to assemblymen and legislation who are members for a bill regarding "bullying bosses" as I was getting nowhere in finding permanent work and all I appear to get are very bad, dead end 3-month assignments. Then I end up having to go back on unemployment. Worse yet, sometimes I apply for posiions directly, and go on interviews and then give my recruiters as references only to learn that months later, I don't get the job and somehow the recruitment agency ends up having this person as a client.
