I'm not quite sure what to make of the news that Rush Limbaugh uses Viagra (and despite his pillhead past, doesn't have enough sense to avoid getting in trouble with the law over it), but I'm sure planning to watch...
Embarrassing for Rush. Of all the things. I bet if he could choose, he would have been convicted for the other stuff rather than let this come to light.

I agree this is not something I want to see on TV. It's a personal issue, okay?
I also think it's ridiculous that NASCAR had a Viagra sponsored car. And that herpes meds are in TV commercials. (I know it's a medical issue, but I don't want to see it while watching TV with my kids- or without them, for that matter).
Can't we just keep some things private?>

"Why do you need a perscription for Viagra?"
Joey, I'm guessing it's because the contraindications and possible side-effects warrant a doctor's involvement. It's not exactly harmless stuff.>

I don't see any connection between Limbaugh and Dole. Dole chose to advertise his problem. Rush did not. Certain people seriously have it in for Rush and will apparently stoop to anything to get him. I am in no way excusing Rush's lack of chastity (he is not married right?) but anyone who makes hay of this is a sad sad person.>

Dreher,
You are a mean-spirited, little man. I used to think you were a thoughtful reporter. But over time, especially now that you're a (blech!) "crunchy con" (and how's that for a yuppie label?) you've also adopted a sanctimonious, holier-than-thou air. Knock it off.>

June 27, 2006 7:48 PM
At the risk of seeming like that "sad, sad person," I feel that Rush proved himself to be such a hypocrite about his own drug abuse problems (I heard a lot of blaming others for his own problems, and very little taking responsiblity) that a little public mockery may be in order.
We used to put people in the stocks and through rotten tomatoes at them. Nowadays the media does it for us.>

Several years ago I read in the paper that Bob and Elizabeth Dole were one of the couples that tested Viagra before it was approved. That put pictures in my head that I still can't get rid of. I wish I could wash my brain out with soap.
So Rush had his doctor write the prescription to himself, rather than to Rush, "for privacy purposes"? Yeah, that worked out *real* well Rush! Presumably if the prescription had been written for him (i.e., Rush), as it should have been, there would have been no problem at Customs, and none of us would have heard about it.
Another example of how the attempt to cover something up always causes more problems than the original problem itself.>

I'm amazed that anyone - let alone self-identified "conservatives" - still take Limbaugh at all seriously. Let's see, draft dodging, multiple marriages and divorces, pill-popping, and now it seems he likes to vacation in a third-world country which is coincidentally a huge sex-tourism destination? This guy is the leading spokesman for American Conservatism?>

I feel a little sorry for Rush. how embarressing!! However, He kind of set himself up for this to happen. there are scads of people on the left who would love to cause him grief. I listen to Limbaugh a lot, because i like listening to him, but i don't consider him someone to pattern your life after. He sadly, seems to have some kind of problem dealing with marriage. My own opinion is, he's like Captain Kirk on Star Trek, who is too married to the Enterprise, to ever give his heart to a woman. I think Rush is too wedded to his political activities, to make a marriage work. Well, all the Hero's in the Bible had feet of clay too. So do the rest of us. How many of you would be embarressed if your secret was outed?>

Compare this post to Rod's recent post on Dan Rather. He refers to Rather with the nickname of "Gunga Dan," a reference to his noteworthy work in Afghanistan. He insults Limbaugh by referring to him as a "pillhead."
Dan Rather's career at CBS draws to an ignominious close due primarily to the "Memogate" scandal. How does Rod react?
"I've never been a Dan Rather fan, for the usual reasons, but there's something disgraceful in the way CBS is treating him, blackballing him out the door after having given virtually his entire career to CBS News. The piece in last Saturday's NYT really was close to heartbreaking, to see a man like that robbed of his dignity, and humiliated by the news organization to which he was so devoted. Surely there was a more graceful way for CBS to have handled this. Surely."
And in the comments:
"Look, I don't like Rather. I'm glad he's going. I just find the manner in which he has been defenestrated to be sad on a human level. The guy is down and out. I don't see the value in kicking him."
But what does he say about Rush's troubles?
"...I'm sure planning to watch Leno and Letterman tonight to find out what it all means!"
I could comment on this, but it speaks for itself.>

What bothers me about it is that Rush used to tell his audience that he believed in sex within marriage only. When he was unmarried he said that the did not have sex, and never had outside of marriage (he had been married twice at that point). But since then he's been married and divorced again and was dating some woman from CNN the last I heard. I guess he's changed his tune.>

Nope, NO decency and reticence, even from vowed celibates:
June 26, 2006 The much-anticipated first kiss between husband and wife Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman was "above average," according to the man who married them in Sydney, Australia, on Sunday evening.
"I wouldn't say it was the longest [kiss] in history I've seen some long ones but it was not too bad," Father Paul Coleman, the Kidmans' family priest, told "Good Morning America."
