Psalm 83
A construction worker just
found an early medieval Psalter buried in an Irish bog -- a find that's being compared to the Dead Sea Scrolls in terms of its significance. It was discovered open to
Psalm 83 -- which, given the situation in the Middle East at the moment, strikes some as a sign. Well, it's at least an interesting coincidence.
I'm confused. The Dead Sea Scrolls were lost writings, right? Whereas the Psalms are known to this day, right?
I mean, I can see that the recovery of such an ancient artifact is pretty cool, but I really can't see the analogy. But maybe I'm missing something, and someone can fill it in for me.>
No, BrentEubanks, I think that the museum staff simply made a silly comparison ('I have a vague recollection that the Dead Sea Scrolls were also... discovered').
By the way (I don't know where the Times's Alan Cowell is based, although the dateline reads London), I look at the major UK papers daily, and I can tell you that the level of knowledge in matters religious evinced by the staff writers etc is shockingly low, particularly when it comes to the res catholica. The Telegraph's piece seems quite decent, though.

I was googling this and noted that the Irish Museum issued a statement that the Psalm 83 of that time is actually the much less conjecture-ridden Psalm 84 of our time...>
