Community building

Thursday August 3, 2006

Got an e-mail from a CC reader in Sasquatch Country:

I live in Washington State. Are there any organic farms in run by orthodox Christians in Washington State?

I dunno, are there? Somebody here know the answer?

There was a combox thread the other day in which some folks wanted to know how to meet other crunchy cons in their area. We need to have a website for community networking and building. I'm working on that in conjunction with the October release of the paperback version of CC. In the meantime, feel free to use the comboxes below to post contact information if you want to meet other conservatives of crunch in your area.

http://www.localharvest.org/

This site allows you to put in your state or even more specifically, zip code, to find farms, etc. By using it, I found that there is a large farm literally around the corner that has chickens, beef and eggs. I also found a local source for honey.

I wonder if starting Crunch Con Meet Ups would work? I ask this as someone who has never done the Meet Up thing.

Hey, that could be fun. If you want to have a CC meet-up in your town, drop me an e-mail at rdreher(at)dallasnews.com, and I'll post it. Or maybe we can just decide that, say, the last Saturday in August will be Crunchy Con Meet-Up Day, and we can organize places around the country, and post times and venues here. We had a National Review Corner Readers' Meet-Up at a Dallas Irish pub when I first moved here, and it went well.>

Cheryl Linsey Seelhoff who blogs at http://womensspace.wordpress.com/ would know about Christian organic farms in Washington. Not sure of the meaning of "orthodox" in this context.>

Or for those who like to garden organically, try googling Raintree Nursery. Not exactly overtly Christian but they do "do" organic and heritage fruit trees, plants, etc.>
