So it turns out that the Speaker of the House knew months ago about that pervy Rep. Mark Foley coming on to an underage Congressional page, and apparently did nothing about it. I don't understand either why Rep. Rodney Alexander,...
Rod, do you honestly believe that any other party would have acted differently? I don't
Don't get me wrong. Foley's actions are vile, and anyone who conspired to cover up those actions behaved reprehensibly. Sadly, it's always been so.
Alexander Hamilton's 'fessing up to his affair with Maria Reynold's was considered unusually honorable behavior. There have been few such examples since.>

A good friend of mine, who has never voted for a Democrat in his life, will vote for a Democrat this fall. Why? Not because he thinks the Democrats are saints or saviors, but because he thinks without effective opposition, the Republicans are self-destructing. It's a cliche but it's true: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are seeing this at all levels of the Republican party. And it's clear that under this administration, Republicans will continue to drink the Kool-Aid until it is taken away, thrown out, or thrown in their faces.>

No, Tom, I'm sick of Republicans. I'm sick of my own party in power. I'm sick of the people I vote for and support primarily because I believe they are more representative of my Christian values behaving like dirtbags, and expecting me to continue ratifying their holding power because however badly they're running things, At Least They're Not Democrats.
None of this should be taken as me suddenly finding a strange new respect for or love of the Democrats. I have no more love for or admiration of them today than I did last year, or five years ago. But I don't expect much from them. I expect a lot from my team. Why don't you?>

I don't know - since this is at least the second case of high level goverment officials stupidly having tracable online sex-fests with teens, and both of them are Republicans. Funny how so many of the crimes government members think they can get away with - underage sex, illegally awarding contracts, etc - are committed by Republicans. At least Bill Clinton kept it legal by schtupping an adult.>

I admire Ron for wanting to hold them accountable. If they're going to call themselves the moral party and the voters are going to refer to themselves as the moral voters, then it only seems right that they behave with a little bit of.........morals?>

I was so sick of my own party, the Democrats, that I registered Republican in 2004 (and then voted for John Kerry, anyway). We need the Purple Party, now.>

Well, I agree that Republicans should have stomped on this creep but when democrats has exactly the same kind of scandal in their own ranks with Rep Gerry Stubs, they continued to support him and he may still be serving in congress. He certainly wasn't felled for an outright affair with an underage male page.>

Rod- I've been growing sick of the Republicans for a long time now. I think the whole Democrat versus Republican paradigm has become useless and no longer makes sense. I don't expect anything from "Republicans" anymore just because they are "Republicans." That has become meaningless. From a political standpoint, the whole party system is broken. I guess what I meant is that, in some sense, I have become sick of everything and everybody, including myself- not in the sense of despairing, but simply realizing how fallen we all are, how much we are in need of God's grace.>
