Father Plushy

Tuesday December 5, 2006

Here's another priest who really would do better moving on to a new career as a massage therapist, or something touchier-and-feelier. Really, if you show up at the end of mass in Barney drag to give your parishioners a "Barney blessing," what on earth is the point of even pretending that anyone should take you seriously as a spiritual father?

BTW: Rod and his Orthodox buds: Please see Joe's link (up above) to the utterly nutso EO prelate who wants his flock to suicide-bomb the Israelis.

To coin a phrase: "I'd like to know what orthodox Orthodox and others have to say about it."

Know what I mean? ;)

dianeski, the thorn in Rod's side>

While the Barney suit is not represenative of the typical mass in the US, I will say the typical mass has more in common with what took place in Orange County than what one sees with the Devine Liturgy in the Orthodox churches.

I am a Roman Catholic myself, and I agree with Rob, the priest who was in a Barney suit should be removed from the priesthood, and barred from any offical function dealing with the Catholic church, sadly priests like this are all too typical in the church in the US, though to be fair, most do not take it to extremes like this fool did.

Diane, its sad Catholics like you refuse to even see the conditions that drove Rod away from the church in the first place, and its sad you excuse the "Sprit of Vatican II" infected clergy that led to these conditions in the first place.>

its [sic] sad you excuse the "Sprit of Vatican II" infected clergy that led to these conditions in the first place.

Er, when have I "excused" "'Sprit of Vatican II' infected clergy"? You must have me confused with someone else. Please do not put words in my mouth. Thank you! :)

That's number one. Number two: IMNSHO, Rod had NO good reason to leave the Church. If you think the grass is one whit greener in EOxy--despite the beauty of Orthodox DL, which is also available in Eastern Catholicism, forsooth--then you are kidding yourself. Rod has leapt out of the frying pan and into the fire...as I trust he will eventually learn.

(And personally, I'll take Father Plushy any day over Father Nutsy, now promoted to archbishop!!!!, with his calls for Orthodox suicide-bombing of Israelis. Heck, I'd take Father Plushy any day over the recently retired OCA Bishop Tikhon. :p That doesn't mean I "excuse" Father Plushy. It merely means everything's relative. Things are tough all over--and again, as I said before, if Rod really wants to focus on loony clerics, he can start right in his own newly adopted communion. There's more than enough material there for about a hajillion blog posts.)

Christ never promised us a Church without tares, or one where the liturgy always reaches the rarified standards of the snooty aesthetes. All He promised us was the One True Church, founded upon Peter, which would prevail against the gates of Hell unto the very end...no matter what.

If I had a dollar for all the times, in the course of the past two millennia, that critics have prophesied the imminent demise of the Catholic Church, I'd be a gazillionaire.

The Catholic Church survives, prevails, enduress, and (ultimately) triumphs. And there ain't nuthin' our Working Boy can do about it.

God bless,

Diane

BTW: You might want to study Matthew 25: 31-46 and then tell us where it says that perfect liturgical praxis gets us into Heaven. :)

Also, you may want to note that the Barney-outfit priest was disciplined by his bishop, who did not know about this Mass until it was reported to him. Details, details. But why let facts get in the way of yet another Rod-Bash of the Church He Left and Yet Loves?>

Oh yeah, another thing. Google "Elder Ephraim" sometime. I'll take Father Plushy any day over that crew, too. (And the Ephraimites wield a lot of influence in EOxy, especially among converts, lemme tell you. They have two monasteries here in NC, so I know whereof I speak.)>

Diane, all I can say is GROW UP. Rod brings up very real and very valid points, and for all intents and purposs, you excuse this poor excuse for a priest, and do not get me started on Bp.Todd Brown of the Orange diocese.

The gates of hell will not prevail over the church, but that does not mean local parishes or even diocese' will be all spared. As for being "snooty" was everyone before 1965 "snooty"? Think about it, but thats the thing, you will have to think, and not try to vomit out "cute" Limbaugh style soundbytes.>
