One important step might be that those who are so afraid of the Islamists destroying the Modern Western Civilization must also come to grips with the fact that, more often than not, they themselves equate this same culture as "evil." Look at the threads about the women's lib movement for example.
Make up your minds those of the religious right! Is Western civilization "evil and must be destroyed," (and therefore the Islamists are doing your bidding) or is it something you wish to have left intact? That's my problem with many, many arguments from certain factions -- their consistent inconsistency.>
Does the choice have to be between "materialistic junkheap" and "smoking crater?" Besides a very small fringe, people on the Religious Right are not in favor of violence to achieve means. Bin Laden is right when he calls this country decadent, but that means it should stop being decadent, not that everyone in it should be killed.

Also, what Bin Laden wants the culture to look like is very different from what we think that healthy Western culture should look like. Just because we agree on a few points doesn't mean that we agree on all.>
Not to let "the religious right" off the hook or anything, but aren't there lots (and lots) of people on the left who also think America is evil and are therefore, shall we say, not *wholly* opposed to Comrade Bin Laden?>
So I guess some of you are saying that denying the holocaust and advocating for a new one is not evil? That telling heinous lies about the Jewish people is not evil? That corrupting children with hatred is not evil? That it's not evil that moderates are either afraid to speak out (because you know what will be coming to them) or are silently complicit with the prevailing view?
Wow. Then just what is evil? Do we need to see lots more incinerated Jews before some of you will believe in evil?>
It's hard to understand how it is possible for whole populations not even to have heard of such a major historical event that is still withing living memory.>

I believe it was Michael Moore who on 9/12/01, said that America had it coming. I dont believe he is excatly Mr. Religious Right, but he seems to think this country is quite evil.>

While wondering if I'm right in assuming that john's post is supposed to convince the reader of America's decadence, I'm struck by a couple of random thoughts.
Let's all stand up to these Holocaust-denying Muslim cultures, and publicly insist that they are all hate-filled war mongerers who want nothing more than to establish Muslim dictatorships in every country. When they complain about our telling lies about them, we can simply point out that our "lies" are no more "lies" than their "truth" about Jews is "truth".
[Personal caveat: that is an ill-formed and incomplete idea. I don't personally believe in the core descriptions.]
To Burlap Bagg: two sets of your "enemies" are not by definition "friends" of each other. I don't know of any liberal this side of the lunatic fringe who even thinks that we got what was coming to us, and Michael Moore may be excused (but not forgiven) for using exaggerated rhetoric in order to promote his livelihood. I am, in many ways, just as liberal as Moore, and in no way do I permit him to speak for me, not even in those areas where I may later agree with him: I simply don't trust him any further than I trust most televangelists, and for the same reasons.>

I don't know about Michael Moore, but I recall two guys named, IIRC Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell saying the same thing. Do their names ring a bell with you? Are they Christian by any chance?

It is the Christian Nazis who gassed the Jews and it was always the Western Europeans who ill-treated them.
The Jews have lived in Arab lands for centuries in peace and harmony. The problem between Arabs and Jews happened after the creation of Israel in Arab Palestine.
Stop blaming everyone else.
