Whom the gods would curse, they first make Anna Nicole Smith, who was just pronounced dead in Florida. No cause yet given. Sad, this. Rich, famous, beautiful, miserable -- and now, gone, leaving behind a six-month-old baby. Lord have mercy. What a messed-up life, as anybody who watched her show could tell. I hope she finds peace. As the Pat O'Brien of the 19th century said, "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce."
UPDATE: No disrespect to the dead intended, but good grief, did nothing else happen in the world today but the passing of a very minor celebrity? CNN and Fox News have been on this thing constantly, with no let-up. And there hasn't been any new news for hours.

"I feel sorry for the baby, but this lady? She had all the money, power and help she could have ever wished for to pull herself up and out of the sewer. Instead she made a career out of reveling in her own crapulence. Ashes to ashes, trash to trash. Oh please | 02.09.07 - 12:21 am" I just don't even know how any person could actually believe this statement. She was a troubled young woman AND A PERSON. Yes, it is too bad that she couldn't get it together, but just because she had money means nothing. All the money in the world will NOT bring you happiness. Let alone all the people in her life who just wanted the fame & fortune. Who could she honestly even trust? I am shocked that those of you who call yourself children of God can be so callous. I guess it is just because you are so perfect.
Someone said, "She wasn't really known for being a Playboy model. She found fame and fortune by marrying a wealthy man in his 80's, and then fighting his heirs for the money." I thought she was made famous by being a Guess Jeans girl. That's how I knew her (before the tabloid life). I remember the buzz that curves were going to be "in." And I think she was pretty well known for being the Playmate of the year. I think her life story is absolutely tragic.
You know, I remember hearing my friends talking about her marriage to the old codger back in 19mumblemumble, calling her gold-digger and such. I never got that from her. As messed up as some of us may think a 20-something and an 80-something having a relationship like that may be, hearing her in interviews, seeing her speak about it in court, I really got the sense she really had a deep love for him. She had a rough life, despite what anyone says about money curing all ills. She only ever wanted some kindness and some love. I hope she has some peace now. I really do.
Yeah, I think that this is just sad on all fronts. Of course, there's the silly soap opera aspect to it, (which I posted on on the first topic) but what it boils down to is that there's a child without a mother or (for now, anyway) a father, and the daddy candidates don't exactly give one reason for optimism, at least at first glance. But, whatever happens happens. It's not for us to decide, just hope the best for everyone.
Thanks for enlightening me about the contemporary Pat O'Brien. I'm afraid my ignorance was genuine. I suppose that's what I get for not having cable TV. ;-)
