Q: What was in Anna Nicole's fridge when she died?Shoot, you can't make this stuff up. She makes the Springer show look like "Meet the Press." Va va va voom!...
So Rod, you hate this horrible, ungodly, shallow, death mongering, hypersexualized and mean-spirited popular culture of ours so much that you're constantly harping on the importance of Christians like yourself yanking your family right out of it; that is, when you're not chortling over dead gold diggers and diapered astronuts. What gives?

Susan: Try telling me what you don't understand and I'll try making sense. K? Max: I am tickled, don't worry. I'm just pointing out an inconsistency of Rod's -- how often does he write that he hates this awful culture of ours, only to revel in the trashier portions of it. I don't understand the inconsistency is all.

MT: I didn't say the "h" word, y'all did. Rod doesn't just dislike pop culture, he has written time and again about removing himself and the family from it for the sake of his and their souls, and he has written time and again about the tawdrier stuff floating around the culture, clearly enjoying it. I'm not saying it's wrong to enjoy a tawdry tale, and I think it would be so insufferable were Rod to revel in it, in order to write blog posts about how simply awful it all is, like so many in the media do. No, I'm just saying there should be some major cognitive dissonance afoot to be so hatin' of the culture and so lovin' of it at the same time. I'm just sayin'.

Seriously, Rod. Some people I know seem to be enjoying this woman's death to much. Granted, these jokes would have been funny February 7th, but with her death, all these things just seem sad to me. God bless.

The subject of Nicole came up in a conversation with some Christian friends Monday. One of them was a lot like Rod, fascinated with the deprevation and debauchery. I don't get it. The only thing I can think of as comparable is the person afflicted with a phobia like fear of snakes or spiders. The other shared my concern for the child. After all this little girl is going to have to live with a legacy that has nothing to do with her beyond a moment of passion in another's life. There's also the family and friends and all that money. Nicole used fame, money, and sex to find friends. Her friends are all about the fame, the sexual images, and the money. I don't see any winners from my perspective if the obvious candidates get custody. One hopes that in the cauldron a good person blessed with a healthy outlook on life finds a way to have a positive influence on the child's life.

I'm fascinated because Anna Nicole was the epitome of a certain kind of American life: sex, drugs, fame, the fast life -- and the willingness to figuratively (or possibly literally) prostitute yourself to get it. Little in the fridge but illegal drugs and diet products. That says something. And now a fifth man is coming forward claiming to possibly be the father of her child.

She's not an approprite butt of jokes now. It is so very sad. How terrible and *guilt-inducing* it must have been to learn your son probably got hold of that methadone which killed him from your refrigerator or your dirt-bag husband.(He was not a drug addict and so didn't have a supply when he entered the Bahamas to visit his mom.) She was suicidal and inconsolable after his death. Sure, some thought she was a joke but she was right there with the rest of us when it comes to one's love for one's child. I always liked her and thought she was very gutsy in spite of her obvious problems. I imagine, although I have no way of knowing, that she was fundamenatlly a decent soul. A sad end, really.

I am so incredibly saddened by the whole mess. How can you NOT feel compassion for this woman who was seduced by the idea that fame would bring her the acceptance and self worth she obviously didn't receive from her family. This woman was LIED to over and over again by the world, those around her, and (I belive) Satan himself. I see her as a victim who made poor choices. Oh, and a beloved, adored, cherished child of God. Do we have any right to mock her??? Ephesians 5:3 "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving". Sorry, Rod, I agree with much of what you have to say, but I think this post falls firmly in the category of coarse joking. Not cool.

If only Anna Nicole was a fetus or a Christian being persecuted for their faith. Then she'd be worthy of compassion! Remember everyone, Jesus only cares about the worthy, and so should we all.

Whatever her sad life and even her tragicomic death were like, Anna Nicole Smith was still one of God's children. The poor woman's died. Nothing we say will serve to make her lot better or worse before the Throne of God. The Lord's Judgement is more fair and evenhanded than that of our rumormongering press. Let her rest in peace. ----------------------------------

Rod Dreherh Hmmmmm, I see her life as an example of cumulative ignorance of the generational variety. I see it being a lot less about her bad choices but more about the bad decisions made by her family historically. I know it would be nice to put her life into a bottle and threaten children with it if they misbehave. It wouldn't be fair to her and it sure as heck wouldn't be fair to the kiddos. I personally see her life as a great example of a teaching tool for parents. They can project what their own child will become if they give their child the same set of tools for handling life that Anna Nicole was given.

I thought Schadenfreude was joy at the misfortunes of one's enemies? So what did Anna Nicole ever do to you, Rod??? I think this is just so so sad. What a poor, confused, lost soul she was, may God be good to her. I really think she meant no one any harm, she just floundered around without direction in life. The one lodestar, her love for her son, who was taken from her. And her poor little baby, I hope they straighten out this mess and someone DECENT gets to raise her. Did anyone watch the comments of the judge regarding disposition of her earthly remains? Whew, how creepy was that? Aren't there any normal people involved in this fiasco? Really, Rod, I usually am sympathetic to you, but to say on the one hand to say that the culture is toxic and we need to stay away from it, and then on the other hand, to revel in this unfortunate creature's sad end....well, really!!!! Doesn't Great Lent start for you on Monday? Maybe you should work on this....
