Real-life dialogue with a 3-year-old

Wednesday March 7, 2007

As reported by my correspondent, calling from the minivan:

"Why you got married?"

"Because I love Daddy and wanted to be with him forever."

"Why I wasn't there?" -- gets teary -- "Why I wasn't invited."

"Because you weren't here yet."

"Was I staying with Granmom?"

"No, honey, you were in heaven with God. Mommies and daddies have to get married first, and then they have babies."

"Why I wasn't there?"

Easing a child's mind by proclaiming heresy can have only a deleterious effect. Ideas have consequences. WWWS? (what would Weaver say?) ;-)

What ever happened to the truth? Are kids not deemed worthy to hear it anymore?
