Small world, the green Christian blogosphere. I'm the one who sent this quote to Andrew earlier today, in response to his post on "Green Faith." Here's the other ones I sent him: Love all of God s creation, the whole of it and every grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of God s light! Love the animals. Love the plants; love everything. If you love everything, you will soon perceive the divine mystery in things. Fyodor Doestoyevski O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, our little brothers to whom thou hast given this earth as their home in common with us. May we realize that they live not for us alone, but for themselves and for thee, and that they love the sweetness of life even as we, and serve thee better in their place than we in ours. St. Basil the Great I want creation to penetrate you with so much admiration that everywhere, wherever you may be, the least plant may bring to you the clear remembrance of the Creator One blade of grass or one speck of dust is enough to occupy your entire mind in beholding the art with which it has been made. St. Basil the Great
Because beauty is boundless, love shall never cease. St. Gregory of Nyssa We may gain some inkling of what God is if we attempt by means of every sensation to reach the reality of each creature, not giving up until we are alive to what transcends it. St. Clement of Alexandria About the Book of Creation, he says, the creatures are like letters proclaiming in loud voices to their Divine Master and Creator the harmony and order of things. For this reason, God gave creation such orders as is found therein, so that while He is by nature invisible, men might yet be able to know Him through His works. St. Athanasius, speaking of St. Anthony The sun sings thy praises, the moon gives thee glory, every creature offers a hymn to thee, his author and creator, for ever. The Lenten Triodion Bless, Doug

"O what a Treasure is evry Sand when truly understood! Who can lov any thing that God made too much? His infinit Goodness and Wisdom and Power and Glory are in it. What a World would this be, were evry thing Beloved as it ought to be!" --Thomas Traherne, a new and strong interest of mine, as can be seen on my blog.

Read Kallistos Ware's little book 'From the Creation to the Creator'. Better yet, get the taped lecture from Orthodox Christian Cassettes. Great stuff.
