Away for a couple of days
I will be away from the blog for a day or so, and headed to the New York area to give a talk on Tuesday at
Bergen Community College. No new postings till after I get back. Y'all be good -- I've deputized someone to monitor the comboxes. Oh what fun. Onward!
Has anyone read McKibben's Deep Economy yet? If so, what'd you think?
I actually ordered as a result of the Wendell Berry/Bill McKibben link that Rod left on another post. I'll let you know after I get it and read it. I'm intrigued though.
On a completely unrelated foodie note, Dreher family, if you haven't checked this place out, do. www.artisanalcheese.com Artisanal is a wine and cheese bistro opened by New York celebrity chef, Terrance Brennan. Chef Terrance has opened his pantry doors and made his collection of more than 300 world-class cheeses available to the public. Prices may be a little above average, but customer service is impeccable and there are cheeses here you won't find anywhere else in America. Really great stuff, almost all of which is from small producers around the world. And, if you're in NYC, the food is tremendous. *Disclaimer: no economic interest, but a local chef who I am friends with buys his cheese there.
I like Brie cheese. Unfortunately, I think that you have to be french or it goes right to the hips, butt, and thighs.
I can't believe that Rod left for a couple of days and didn't really leave us with anything to fight about. Bugg asked about Imus. I hope that they fire him. America needs to rid herself of big-mouth radio personalities who say nothing and bring the whole nation into the gutter.
Watsy, I agree with you wholeheartedly. What really upset me - and I hate agreeing with Al Sharpton - was Imus' feeble denial that his comments were racial. I guess he thinks we've forgotten how much he likes to call black reporters "cleaning ladies". Dump him. Now.
