Mark Shea's head explodes. Excerpt:
It is rubbish to say that treating a desperate woman with sympathy is "moral compromise". It is charity and commanded by the gospel. It is rubbish to say that the logical corollary of sympathy for a desperate pregnant woman is support for mass slaughter of innocents and torture. But that is what Barnett is attempting to argue. And in attempting to justify the intrinsic moral evils of mass slaughter of civilians and torture, Barnett has also "justified" abortion with his calls for "moral compromise" in dealing with "real life". Astounding to see what depths torture apologists will sink to.

Lastly, Shea, I really don't think you have any right to make hay out of others' lack of precision, given how frequently you dismiss others' points in this vein against you as "gotcha games" and "majoring in minors." Readers of Beliefnet might also be interested in this post, where Shea redundantly proves his complete inability to understand an argument, smearing Glenn Reynolds by attributing to him the thought that "Murder should be allowed because it's interstate commerce." Lots of family-friendly fun there and in the combox where patient readers try to explain to Osheama bin Libel what the Commerce Clause is and how it might or might not be relevant to the PBA case.
and of course your inimitable soulmate D'Hippolito Remember when you swore off your jihad against Joe. Remember when you said That said, Joe's vile behavior does not justify my prolonging the quarrel, especially in other blogs. AND I have ... carried my quarrel with him there when it was wrong, profitless, and inconsiderate to others to do so.
AND This post, I hope and pray, accomplishes that. I have reached the place where I realize that responding to Joe publicly or privately any further is a sin for me, a waste of time for everybody else, and most of all, a danger for Joe.
AND But I can't do anywhere near as much about Joe's hatred of me. And so far, what I have done is pour gas on the fire. It begins to occur to me that I will have to answer for that. ... But I will apologize for choosing to continue my fight with Joe long after it was anything other than a personal grudge match. I will apologize for the gratuitous insults. I will apologize for caring more about my pride than about the fact that I was inflaming hatred in both our hearts and thereby endangering both our souls.
That would have been SO SO SO awesome ... if you'd meant it. Since Joe had not been previously involved in this thread, since Joe had not been mentioned or cited in this thread, since no idea uniquely attributable to Joe been mentioned or cited in this thread ... but yet you couldn't resist naming him in a discussion with me as if he were some convenient tar baby with which you can smear anyone and everyone who disagrees with you. I have a cordial relationship with Joe with which I am not ashamed and should not be, and if he's in Washington, it's beer o'clock and I'm buying. But I have made it clear that Joe says things I don't agree with (as most human beings do). So one wonders what the point of your reference to "your inimitable soulmate D'Hippolito." Actually, one doesn't really wonder, but ...
What has Paris Hilton ever done to deserve being dragged into this?
Victor, thank you very much for your kind offer and for defending me.
Since when has Mark cared about rational consistency??? Those who think he has can review this thread and tell me that he gives a rip about truth and principles. Something is right or wrong on its own merits or lack thereof intrinsically, not because Jimmy Akin or anyone else says so. And that is the bottom line, and not merely cause I say so.
