The good news is that the US Ambassador to Iraq is now recommending granting visas to Iraqis who've helped the US occupation. God knows those poor souls deserve it, as they're doomed to die as "collaborators" if they stay in Iraq.
The bad news -- for supporters of the war -- is that this really is the beginning of the end. The helicopters-off-the-Saigon-embassy-roof phase of the war commences.

That's what happens to collaborators. How many were executed in France after WWII? Heck, even Norway executed a couple hundred. Screw the passports. If they have nowhere to run, maybe they'll try a little harder.

This is not the beginning or end of anything. There may be some brief illusion of troop withdrawal in a few years, but the US will have a miltary presence in the region until every drop of oil has been pumped from under the sands of the greater Middle East. Bet on it. The permanent US presence was the neo-con plan from the get-go.
Sorry, but why do we want to give visas to these people? We gave refugee status to large groups of Somalis and look at the mess that has become. Letting in tens of thousands of Iraqis is only going to bring their problems here. If we want to help them resettle in another Arab country, fine. At least it will be culturally similar.
Kim, your sense of compassion is remarkable and a consolation to those of us troubled by our own lack of charity.
"I believe that the plan is to totally level Iraq to the ground before repeating the helicopters-in-Saigon thing.

So very much in keeping with all of the rose petal throwing predictions and so truly liberating.
