Hillary and Libby

Tuesday July 3, 2007

I couldn't agree more with Andrew Sullivan about the impossible position Hillary Clinton is in with regard to commenting critically on the Libby commutation. Excerpt:

Because of her husband's grotesque abuse of the pardon power at the end of his presidency. Just a small reminder of the baggage Clinton carries, baggage that will prevent her from either fully exposing the abuse of power under this administration or ending it if she were to become president. Everything in Clinton's past, after all, suggests that she will quite eagerly accept Dick Cheney's transformation of the executive branch into a rampart of secrecy, executive privilege and personal will. These were her hallmarks in the White House as well. She shares with Cheney an obsessive fixation on her own secrecy, a paranoid suspicion of her political opponents, and a desire to use all the powers at her disposal.

But why shouldn't Cheney and Clinton be paranoid? They inhabit the same den of vipers. Their sole focus (and the focus of everyone around them) is acquisition and maintenance of worldly power. Paranoia is when you think everyone's out to get you, but it's only in your head. These folks inhabit a slimey world where everyone actually is out to get them. That's technically not paranoia.

But Obama!!! He wants to bring hope to us all! He will re-unite all peoples in all lands under his banner of peace, justice and love. When he ascends to power, Jesus will finally be convinced that humanity truly wants the Kingdom on earth and come down to declare the New Jerusalem with heartfelt thanks to the great Obama who is also a wonderful husband and selfless bestower of pure joy.

To Andrew on Hillary, I say; Unlike Dick Cheney, Hillary Clinton has ample reason to be 'paranoid and suspicious'. What's HIS excuse.

Caine, that was priceless. I am an Obama fan, but I agree that the hero worship is a little much.

The real tragedy of the Clinton corruption is that it hinders the overthrow of Bush?
Isn't Clinton's corruption wrong in its own right?

How could hillary clinton be responsable for the Executive branch? She was not president. What DICK Cheney and his cronies has done has caused massive bloodshead, loss of life, and loss of limb. It has brought the condemnation of the Vatican and other respected groups. If you are going to hilliary bash I think you are going to have to try harder. If you're trying to be a Catholic or "crunchy con" you might do well to get some morals. The first of these is not talking smack about people without knowlege of history, who was the president at the time (it wasn't hillary), and a general sense of piety. You lack all three in spades and make an extremist laughing stock out of an attempt to be a moderate catholic.
