The "Islamophobia" canard
Today in Dallas, jury selection gets underway in the trial of the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamic charity alleged by the feds to have been a fundraising front for Hamas. Predictably, CAIR has undertaken a national campaign to wake up...
Rod:
If you were on fire and your flesh was burning off, would you scream "Kirk! Kirk!" or "Oh God! Oh God!"
Also, I do not see any difference between the Islamists who say "Allah is our goal; the Messenger is our model; the Koran is our constitution; jihad is our means; and martyrdom in the way of Allah is our inspiration." and the horrible evil espoused by the Project for the New American Century, for instance.
The difference is one is American, and the other is Islamist. Since y'all find one scary but not the other, do those who cry "Islamophobia" not have a point, after all?
The term "Islamophobic" is a misnomer. It's perfectly rational to be fearful of Islam.
There are millions of peaceful Muslims in the world. Rod posted about his meeting a number of them on his trip to Turkey. Unfortunately, radical Islam (by whatever name you choose to call it) seems more like a death cult than anything I can imagine.
I am reminded of the "Kali death cult" in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." At the time when that movie came out, I thought it was racist but I have to acknowledge, that, even if that film presented gross stereotypes of (in this case) Hinduism, there really are religious people who turn their religion into a death cult. Unfortunately, I think radical Islam is one of those.
I'm so tired of grievence groups and their spokesmen who are in enternal states of outrage. Whether it is CAIR, Abe Foxman, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Bill Donohue, etc These people make a living at being offended and it's so lame.
We have chaplans in our military, right?
"According to witnesses, what did one of the Glasgow would-be terror bombers scream as he emerged out of his burning SUV?"
George Bush, a born-again Christian, killed tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis. Do you think he invoked God's name before he launched Shock and Awe?
Again, something weird is going on with Bnet's comments function. I haven't deleted anybody's comments on this thread, but it seems that two have disappeared.
"George Bush, a born-again Christian...."
Please restrain your credulity.

If we're deconsructing religious rhetoric, there's tons of hateful, death-filled imagery coming from prominent Christians. James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Franklin Graham. Maybe Brother Dreher could give them a few swipes with that broad brush of his.
If you can't tell the difference between a Muslim suicide bomber and a Christian televangelist, you're beyond my ability to help.
Nice dodge, Rod. The only difference between the Mullahs and Dobson, Falwell, Robertson and the like are that the Mullahs' followers actually have enough faith in their religion to act on it instead of give lip service.
Maybe *that's* what bugs the Religious Right about Islam - that their followers actually - ya know - follow it?
Wow - I may be on to something here.
Islam says "kill the infidel," and Islamists actually do that. Christianity says "love your enemies" but Christians, for the most part, don't do that.
Is that why y'all are afraid of them?
"If you can't tell the difference between a Muslim suicide bomber and a Christian televangelist, you're beyond my ability to help."
I suspected as much from you, Rod. You must believe it's fine for Christians to kill innocent people with cruise missiles and stealth bombers. The only real difference is that the Muslim suicide bomber has a more tactile approach to religious murder.
"Nice dodge, Rod. The only difference between the Mullahs and Dobson, Falwell, Robertson and the like are that the Mullahs' followers actually have enough faith in their religion to act on it instead of give lip service."
Exactly.
