Ban pit bulls

Tuesday September 4, 2007

Categories: Culture

A six-year-old Dallas boy was mauled to death the other day by the family's pit bull. The child had raised the dog from a puppy. The attack was unprovoked -- family members say they were all watching TV when the dog lunged at the kid.

Advocates keep saying that pit bulls are not dangerous as a breed, but I don't believe them. You keep hearing about pit bulls being involved in these cases. Last Christmas, these awful neighbors from down the street (who finally moved) kept letting their pit bull get out -- he pinned us all down in our house, standing in our front lawn snarling and barking and charging any time any of us would open the front door. I hate those dogs and don't see any good reason why they should be legal. Mind you, any dog can be mean, but pit bulls sure do seem to be implicated in fatal or near-fatal attacks a lot more often than other breeds.

Am I missing something?

You people should be ashamed of yourselves these animals have done nothing but what they were trained BY US AS HUMANS to do!!!!!!!! This particular breed of dog is very loyal and protective of it's owner and it's owners family. I can use my self as an example, I have two children one 8yrs old and the other 1yrs old and my 85 pound pitbull is as gentle with my children as any other breed of dog if not more. If you shallow minded people would take the time to talk to actual pitbull owners(not fighters)you would then learn to look past the intimidation and fear. So if you want to have something done about this so called pitbull problem why don't you start where it all began, WITH HUMANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 13 and own a pitbull, she is the sweetest and most loyal dog ever.the only thing on a pitbulls mind is pleasing there owners, and if there owner trains them to be mean they will be mean.and when I grow up I'm gonna breed pitbulls and cut down there bad rap.so ban people who fight pitbulls instead of banning pitbull

I dont agree with banning breeds at all.

These bans really bother me, but proper tracking of incidents and the relative ratio of Pit Bulls owns, vs attacks should show that it's only a small problem, not directly tied to the breed itself, but to bad owners in general. There should be laws, but not restriction on the breed because, like a lot of us out there, my sweet pit bull is the nicest dog - better than my two chihuahuas and NOT NEARLY as mean. They're all great though : )

There's a cute article on My.Arfie.com about sweet pit bulls - check it out http://my.arfie.com/profiles/blogs/pit-bulls-are-sweet-and-smart
