His candidacy, that is. That's a-what Rick Brookhiser said. The definitive put-down of a candidate who's presidential bid's not going to amount to squat:


Fred Thompson came to the offices of National Review some years when he was still in the Senate. I liked him fine. He has done nothing, anywhere, ever. The Hubble Telescope could not find what he has done, because he has not done it.

It would be unwise to put such a man in the White House at this moment in history.

Ouch. That's gonna stick.

I see that he's also started his pander campaign with social conservatives, talking about abortion and gays. When does he drop in to kiss the rings of Pat Robertson and James Dobson, or start making speeches at Bob Jones and Liberty and Regent?

Hey it is the first step towards turning the news into a made for TV movie of the week. The Dems should run Martin Sheen for president. Was Neil Postman right or what? Pass the popcorn.

It's ironic that Democrats are accused of being the party of the Hollywood elite, yet the most notorious actors turned politicians (turned actor, in the case of Thompson) are all Republicans. Reagan, Thompson, Fred Grandy, Sonny Bono

Reagan was definitely in the Hollywood elite when he started his political career, Thompson appears on the most successful TV franchise in history, Grandy worked for one of the most powerful entertainment moguls in Hollywood (Aaron Spelling) and Sonny was married to Cher.
