LSU Tigers lose to Kentucky Wildcats

Saturday October 13, 2007

Categories: Decline and fall

Oh man. Oh man. Oh man. A week from tonight, I will literally be at Wendell Berry's place in Kentucky. How am I ever going to live this down?

We're having one of our parish priests over to dinner tonight. He just called to say he was on his way. "Prepare to do grief counseling," I told him.

Lucas, bless his heart, just said to gloomy me, with a worried look in his eye, "Dad, the air smells sweet. Diana Krall." Fly me to the moon...

Amen. It should take real courage to be a fan in late November.

William,

"(and I always cheer for Michigan if they are playing outside the conference - i do not hate the Wolverines - I have family who went to school there and a distant relative who played wide receiver there, I am told, many decades ago)"

I too always root for OSU - and any other Big Ten team - in non-conference play. It makes the Big Ten look better in comparison with other conferences, helps us all in the rankings, and besides, it's much more fun to beat you guys when you're undefeated. :) (John Cooper, anyone?)

Osvaldo,

"Amen. It should take real courage to be a fan in late November."

Spot on!

Read just a few minutes ago where Nebraska fired their AD, and supposedly there could be a major housecleaning in Lincoln.

Morale in the AD department is reportedly bad, and even more urgent, from what I read, the main fundraiser has left -- which usually means other high rollers will too.

(Full disclosure -- I lived in Nebraska for several years back in the day, and though I never really got behind them -- Oklahoma was my team -- imagine how well THAT went over :-), I at least want to see them do well).

Larry,

"Rjak:

Fair enough. :) Sadly, the rest of their schedule is weak, so they might (heaven forbid) make it to the title game. That would be too bad, since they'd just get walked on.
