Maybe we could introduce the ALF to the VEM (Voluntary Extinction Movement)...

Wow. Who knew there were worms arguing for the rights of bears?

If there are forests in Heaven, that kid'll be hunting with Michael about now. God bless.

Irenaeus, I like how you think.

Yawn.

Like Kyralessa said:

"Breaking News: Person Says Something Stupid and Offensive on Online Discussion Board!"

Get over yourself.

Really.

When you troll online discussion boards to find something interesting and shocking to write about, you have pretty much hit the bottom of the barrel intellectually and mentally. And then to try to slander everybody who holds a belief with someone's stupid comments, you are on the same integrity level as tabloids writing about some small town joe ranting about aliens breeding with the locals.

Okay - I'll take the bait.

It really, really bothers me when animals are killed needlessly (for entertainment, for example) or treated contemptuously for the sake of fattening someone's bottom line. It has something to do with humility and respect, and I haven't given it enough thought to be able to verbalize my opinion beyond that point. The poster was clearly a loon, but I (kind of) understand the sentiment behind the comment.

What did Jesus say? In the last days the love of many will grow cold.

Daniel

It reminds me of the Swift-boating of Michael J. Fox for advocating for embryonic stem cells or the Swift-boating of sick kids in the SCHIP battle. In many ways, the comparison between animal rights extremists and opponents to embryonic stem cell research seems apt.

Max Schadenfreude

Though not intentional, the verb "to swift-boat" really means to tell the truth about a lib.

Of course, libs love to trot out sick kids to front their lies; you attack the lie and they scream, "You HATE KIDS!"

Such is life.

Hey, did you know that John "Eff-ing" Kerry was in Vietnam? Well, that's when he wasn't spending Christmas in Cambodia.

Daniel

and "to Bork" is to tell the truth about a conservative?

Lynn, agreed.

For a dying boy to want to spend his last moments contributing to the destruction of life of another living being is strange to me. I'm long past the "it's legal" mode of operating. There's so many things in this country that are legal and yet not life affirming.

Nevertheless I grieve with those who loved him that his life was so short.

If there are forests in Heaven, that kid'll be hunting with Michael about now. God bless.

Don't think so. Death is not permitted in heaven. It's the last enemy to be trampled down by the victorious Resurrection of the Lord.

Oh, sorry, I'm getting all theological here.

Christine: Death is not permitted in heaven.

So in doggie heaven, they don't get to roll in stinky dead stuff?

Dan

I will no longer post here; no loss. I can't believe you people. For Christ's sake you remind me of Job's "friends" who were certain Job had committed some horrible sin and deserved whatever illness and tragedy he got. That kid had more balls than you can ever hope to grow in a life time of humorless self righteousness.

Adios and good riddance

Daniel,

No.

Conservative tells truth about lib = "to Swift-Boat"

Conservative tells lie about lib = redundant; the truth is bad enough

Lib tells lie about conservative = "to Bork"

Lib tells truth about conservative = miracle

Don't let the door hit you in the (_!_) on the way out.

When I was attending Texas Tech there was pretty extreme security at the Health Sciences Center. Our professor explained why. A reseacher there was working on SIDS - trying to understand its cause. His research included experimentation on cats.

ALF broke into the lab and did several hundred grand in damage. They destroyed computers, records, and lab equipment. They left lots of graffiti and sent death threats to the researcher. They did this to "liberate" five cats. It took two months to make the lab usable again, and our professor estimated that the research was set back two years.

I've actually done CPR on SIDS babies their mothers were screaming. Any one of those babies was worth more than all the cats on Earth. ALF are scum, every last one of them.

Have you ever eaten a burger? How about chicken? Is there any leather in your home? Do you use insecticides? Or is "destruction of life" only an issue for you when you personally find it distasteful?

There's no dignity in a slaughterhouse. There's no necessity in a leather car seat. If you are horrified by this boy's hunt, then ask yourself if you are also equally horrified by the animals that died for your urges too.

Daniel

"Any one of those babies was worth more than all the cats on Earth. ALF are scum, every last one of them."

A cure for Parkinson's disease would be worth more than all the embryonic stem cells on Earth that will be destroyed anyway. Do you feel as strongly about the forces that stand in the way of cures for disease because they put stem cells that will never be implanted above the lives of sick people? The people who put tissue ahead of people?

That's not to justify animal activists' behavior. Instead, it is to give it some perspective.

Rich
October 25, 2007 10:35 PM

Yeah, Daniel, I do feel the same way. Embryonic stem cells are not people. If they are to be destroyed anyway, and using them can save living people, then for God's sake use them.

Beyond my paramedic experience, I also had a sister who died from a genetic disease (Cystic Fibrosis). The destruction of every excess embryo or the extinction of the common house-cat mean a lot less to me than my sisters life did.

Of course there is one distinction here. So far as I know stem-cell opponents haven't smashed labs or made death threats like ALF has. (They also aren't trying to change a species of omnivores into herbavores, which is just stupid). If stem-cell opponents begin behaving the same way then I'll loathe them too.

I can't speak for Lynn, but yepper, sure did when I was growing up. Went vegetarian several years ago. Also avoid leather. Doing my little part to help conserve water supplies, which are being stressed by our overconsumption of animal products. That's the beauty of being an omnivore. Unlike carnivores, we get to pick and choose what we eat.

At the same time I fully respect that some societies still need to hunt and raise animals to survive.

What that young boy was needing, it seems to me, was a "bonding" experience with his Dad before he died. Too bad he couldn't have fulfilled it without the needless destruction of an animal.

If God didn't want man to eat animals He would'nt have made them to taste like meat.

Let the bears live and when they get old, let them die. By firearm, or by a motor vehicle, or by some stupid sob poisoning them. I prefer a nature hunt that allows them to be smart and the fittest of the species, than any other above mentioned death.
