Went to LSU this morning to take the boys to see the pre-game festivities, including watching the LSU band march down the way to the stadium, stop in front of the crowd, and play the famous fanfare, which never fails to send chills down my spine. Julie said, upon hearing it, "I didn't even go to school here, and it gave me chills." Lucas, who had heard it before on the Internet, and who has been talking about LSU incessantly for a week, started crying when he heard it. He has trouble dealing with strong emotion, and "Bom-bom-bom-BOM" did him in.
Me, I cried hours later, when the Tigers blew their national championship hopes by losing to Arkansas. Well, I didn't literally cry, but it was pretty sad-making. I didn't have tickets to the game, so I watched it at home with my dad. It has to be said that Arkansas played a hell of a game -- especially that McFadden. Have mercy! Does LSU even have a defense anymore? I told my dad in the first overtime that LSU might win this game, but Arkansas deserves to win it.
Anyway, it was a real downer. I slunk out to the kitchen and ate a plate of Thanksgiving leftovers in self-consolation. Feh.

Weird. Here in Lawrence, Kansas, we thought it was a pretty great game.
Weird. Here in Omaha, Nebraska, we say "Go Mizzou!"
Anyway, here's why some of us Louisiana ex-pats are taking the loss damned hard.
Cry me a river, Rod!
I went to Columbia, where we didn't win a single game in the 4 years I attended. We USED to hold the record for consecutive losses by a college football tea (thank God for Prairie View A & M, who passed us by!). Yes, we eclipsed Northwestern's futility mark while Iwas there. But at least Northwestern was getting crushed each week by quality teams like Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame. We were losing 42-0 and 63-7 every week to Bucknell and Lehigh!
To us, a two-loss season would've sounded mighty nice!
Thanksgiving leftovers, Rod? Hope there wasn't any non-fasting items among them (just kidding). I'll probably join you if my Tigers lose to the Red Elephants tonight.
But Feast Week was not a total loss - the Duke men's basketball team did beat Marquette in the Maui Invitational! Rejoice and be glad!
Go Blue Devils!
