Victory for LSU!

Tuesday January 8, 2008

The LSU Tigers are the national college football champions! Last night's 38-24 mudhole-stomping of Ohio State was pure pleasure in my house. I was the fool driving through downtown Dallas this morning with my windows down, playing the LSU Fight...

Um, sort of. People in at least three other programs (Georgia and USC come to mind) would dispute that.

But to the extent that the BCS succeeds at determining a national champ and not just at providing guaranteed-lucrative bowls for the various major conferences, LSU has the right to brag.

Gee, Joel, do you spit on birthday cakes and steal lollipops from babies??

All the polls have spoken: LSU is Number One!

Thanks, Les, Bo, Matt, Glenn etc. It's a sweet day indeed.

Anything that makes OSU people sad sounds good in my book! (I am a Pitt alum who has long suffered the scorn of my OSU-loving relatives :-)

(cut and paste of my comments from the earlier LSU post)

This game, and all the bowl games, are utterly ridiculous. There needs to be a championship tournament. Ohio State would have lost by the second round of a 16 team tourney. LSU may very well have gone all the way, but could have held their victory up as true national champs rather than the empty title they hold now.

I love college football. I played in high school, went to Notre Dame and remain an ND and U of Oregon fan. But over the last few years I've pretty much stopped caring - not because ND has been an embarassment, but because the post-season is so frustratingly anti-climatic. I doubt I'll watch more than 2 NCAA football games next year.

NCAA basketball is where its at. Bring on the March Madness!!! Crown a true national champ on the court.

(end cut-n-paste)

For those of you celebrating, I honestly don't want to rain on your parade. I'd be happy for you, or congratulatory at least, if NCAA division 1 football had a real tournament and LSU won it. Its just an utter travesty that there's no tourney. I wish people would turn off the postseason in protest. I did, but I admit I might have felt differently if ND or U of O were in the title game. So I suppose I wish all the college football fans without favorite teams in the "title" game would tune out.

Bully for you. My pathetic Badgers lost the Fiesta Bowl. Oh well, only seven more weeks until pitchers and catchers report. Go Brewers!

Geaux Tigers!!!!!

I am thrilled

Oh and I am not for a playoff. Why should College become like the NFL? Now that the Saints are out I am only tuning in to see how the manning boys are doing and hoping that the Cowboys lose :)

I hear a lot of fans say they want a playoff but it would be negative in a lot of ways. Especially to the players that too be honest need another bye week instead of more games.

LSU was a Mash Uiiot going into the SEC game. THe hitting is getting harder and harder and soon we will have some tragic results if we add games in quick succession

Anyway Geaux Tigers 2008 National Chamrions

Still can't figure out how LSU won the title with two losses and Auburn finished 13-0 a couple of years ago and didn't even have a sniff.

I'm about as mystified by college football polls as I am about New Hampshire Democratic primary polls.

As a midwest native, I believe it's time we kicked Ohio State out of the Big Ten. Perhaps, after the past two bowl seasons, we should just kick the entire Big Ten out of the Big Ten.

I used to be opposed to a playoff because I was afraid it would cheapen the regular season. But if the BCS can produce a national champion that lost to Kentucky and Arkansas, I don't know what I'm clinging to.
