I tell you this so you can be spiritually prepared for the great event, but we are only three days away from Willie Nelson's 75th birthday. Personally, I think just about the best thing about living in Texas is knowing that Willie Nelson lives here too. He is a secular saint here in Texas, and if you take a look at this old video of an iconic song he did with Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson, you'll get an idea why:

It's very hard to approve of Willie Nelson, but it's harder still not to like him.
The crazy thing is, in small East Texas towns where long-haired, liberal pot smokers are normally despised (and frequently beaten up!), Willie is utterly beloved.
Point out to a redneck that Willie embodies everything he supposedly loathes, and he'll just shrug and tell you, "But it's WILLIE!"
Willie is a heck of a lot better songwriter than Hank Williams. I know, that's almost a sin to say so, but Willie is very, very GOOD.
Hope to see you perform "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" someday.

Holy Cow, to actually see another human being mention this 27-year old song -
one of the greatest ever!
If you've never heard it, download it, and listen to it over and over. It totally conveys why the man is a musical god.
Michael Hirsch can stick this clip where the sun don't shine.....
Happy Birthday Willie!
We love you in Illinois!
