Rawlins eats street food

Monday May 5, 2008

Categories: Food

Our friend Rawlins Gilliland got fed up with people in Dallas thinking there's no such thing as street food around here, so he set out to prove them wrong. His is a wonderful account, which deserves praise if for no other reason than this phrase:

...irresistible heart-burning, praise-the-lard offerings.

Readers, tell us where the best street food is to be found where you live.

All street food has some carbon atoms in it somewhere, so it's organic!

Crunchy enough for me!

Am I the only one who initially parsed "street food" as a euphemism for "roadkill"? I guess there's crunchy and then there's Crunchy.

Hey, I used to know a guy who ate roadkill. When you're motorcycling across the U.S., it's a great way to eat free.

But back to the topic at hand, there's not much in my area of the never-ending coastal suburb of South Florida. A few taquerias, but that's about it. What I'd give for a Döner Kebab...

Oh golly, we just had our first experience of Paul's roasted corn at the Farmer's Market on Saturday. Now THAT is what corn is supposed to taste like. Incredible. Sublime. My 8 year old son and I almost provided some drama outside shed #1 over trying to share that ear of corn. Think I'm going back this weekend for more of that. Yep. Only this time, I'm getting my own.

Zach! Sie sprechen meine Sprache! Doener Kebaps! How I miss that Turkish Delight found throughout the Fatherland...

Irenaeus: I also lived on Turkish 'street food' in Istanbul. To the point where I am transported back again, beneath the minarets at the Blue Mosque… each time I smell or taste lamb.

Meanwhile: The city of Dallas should put down their breakfast tacos applaud THINK host Krys Boyd for her ongoing literate and savvy contribution to this city’s evolving DNA. As I said at show opening; being on her show is 'Like sailing down the Nile with Cleopatra'. For an entire hour, I could smell the lotus! How lucky am I?
