Liveblogging Hillary Clinton

Tuesday August 26, 2008

1. I like the tone of the video introduction of Hillary Clinton -- it's edgy, it's rock-and-roll, it's not soft and all pity-party. And that's what Chelsea's voice sounds like! I can't recall that I've ever heard more than three...

"This is far from a great speech, and barely a good one."

We'll see if the GOP can top it next week. I've got a six pack of Sam Adams that says they won't.

"She's really kicking ass here at the end."

Had she done this, even once, in the primary season, she'd be speaking tomorrow night. Instead of acting like the nomination was hers for the taking, she needed to go after it.

Sad really...we'll see if she still has the fire in the belly for 2016.

Rod, don't know if you saw any of the pre-speech commentary from Matthew Dowd and George Stephanopoulos re: whether the Democrats had their "take-away" convention message yet. Before Hillary, they were saying no. Now? I'm wondering, based on that speech, if there *is* a clear message from the convention. Is it "Fight for the future?" or "Keep going?" Seemed like Mark Warner had "fight for the future" in his speech, too, but if that's what they want people to remember as they discuss this convention I'd say they're going to have to hit it a little harder. Just wondered what you thought.

I agree with you, RJohnson. Throughout the primaries, Hillary acted like the Democratic nomination was something that the voters OWED her rather than something that she had to EARN. That, in short, is why she didn't get the nomination.

She said what had to be said and she said it well. In that it was a great speech. To me the greatest line was the end when she said, "This is why I ran for President and this is why you should vote for Barack Obama."

Classy lady from beginning to end. I think I saw Bill crying in the bleachers, he was very proud of his lady as should be America.

Thought it was a good speech, the one she needed to give.

We are going to whip John McCain's posterior.

John McCain should probably be happy he is not running against her. Fortuantely he is running against the gang that cannot seem to shoot straight. I think this is the first election since polling started that the announcement of a VP candidate did not give the Presidential candidate at least a little bounce.

It's a pity Obama could not have picked Chelsea but she's still too young. She will be someone to watch in coming years and she is the first Presidential offspring that I have ever been impressed by. Get her into Congress, than a governorship and she'll be a hell of a Presidential candidate in 30 years.

We are going to whip John McCain's posterior.

Only if "whip" is spelled k-i-s-s.

Unfortunately for the Republicans, they're gonna have Cheney and Bush speaking at their convention. I'm quite sure that a lot of Republicans would admit that these two aren't the best pitchmen for the Republican brand.

We are going to whip John McCain's posterior.

Who is "we"? Something's wrong when a bunch of unelected Regular Joe Americans sit around and talk about Us and Them in reference to political parties, rather than "we" as in "whom should we pick to be our president?"

For me, an Obama guy, the winning phrase was here rhetorical question "Were you in this for me or for (the people in the stories she mentioned earlier)." That was a great line and really put the onus on us, the voters. If we want change, vote. If you are a Hillary supporter and want change, in 2008, Obama's your guy. We'll talk about next time...next time.

I thought Hillary's speech last night was great. The audience reaction shots were amazing.

I saw many people weeping, and thought they were thinking the same thing I was - that Hillary would make a helluva good POTUS, and that she is the most qualified person for the job, this year, anyway. It's going to be hard for me to pull the lever for Obama this fall, but I will probably do it.

Loved the lines about "It's a good thing the Republicans are having their convention in the Twin cities, since it's become hard to tell John McCain and George W. Bush apart" and the mention of "the sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits."

I dunno. I saw a snippet of Hillary on the TV. All I saw was a politician.
