Mickey Kaus makes a persuasive case. I like this quote that the Silky Pony gave in the "60 Minutes" interview he did with wife Elizabeth after he bravely decided to soldier on after her cancer diagnosis: But, I think every...

The MSM should cover this because he might have been VP even though he won't be now because of this scandal, but if he had been and it wasn't covered, the GOP would have used the information against the Democrats.

I'm not entirely sure I follow your logic, Rod.

Nor I, Rod. Sounds like you are rationalizing. And gossiping.

I seldom agree with you, but I do think the MSM should give this scandal the factual reporting it deserves. And if Edwards remains in private life, that's less than the coverage of any one of the numerous gay scandals concerning Republican officeholders still just being explored by the media.

Especially, say, McCain's "anti-gay crusader" cum Alabama leadership team president state attorney general Troy King found in bed with his wife's male assistant recently. King holds office. Edwards doesn't. Tell us oh so much more about King, won't you? At least Edwards isn't running around saying children born out of wedlock and their parents are the "downfall of American society" the way King has spoken of gays.

I'm no fan of Edwards, but is it any wonder why people don't go into public service?

Has there been much discussion of McCain's divorce? His political career certainly took off after marrying his second extremely wealthy wife.
This man is the GOP candidate and these actions have had profound impact and his future and the GOP party?
What of it Crunchy Cons?

And can we place a moratorium on suffixing "-gate" to every two-bit feeding frenzy that comes down the pike? Everybody knows that appendage is just a way for journalists to gin up interest in its obsession du jour. It reeks of trying too hard.

The governor of a southern state who was often mentioned as a VP choice and could possibly end up in a McCain administration is widely believed to be gay. It has been reported in tabloids and in the alternative press in the governor's home state. Should that be reported by the MSM?

I am so glad I am not the only one who reads the tabloids when standing in line at the grocery store. Seriously, though do we know if these rumours are even true? It seems in poor taste to malign someones character without proof of their alleged indiscretions.

Jeff Daniels, what a great question. Tell us, Rod, is it true McCain came home to find his formerly beautiful wife horribly injured from a car crash, and immediately started committing adultery on her, including with his current wife, the heiress Cindy Hensley? He dumped his wife when she was sick and went for the megabucks? How many Republican leaders have done the same? Are they better than the Roman Catholic priests you've condemned? Why don't you become indignant enough to leave the "conservative" movement, too?

I really think comments should be closed for a spell. How are any of these responsive at all?

Lets see, one one hand we have a candidate who has one wife, a social worker, an advocate for change and on the other hand we have a candidate with two wives, an advocate for failed policies and invests in a beer company that may merge with a company that deals with Cuba, His "sworn enemy".

Hum, who should I trust with my future? Edwards was a good candidate, faithful to his family and a hard worker for the causes of the working man. McCain cheated on his wife, has no track record of creating jobs, invests in outsourcing and supports a failed war.

Oh yes, Edwards is the most liberal (next to Obama) and McCain is the conservative(?) or so I've been told. Everybody knows that Liberials are spawned by the Devil and Conservatives are the Chosen of God.

I had no idea John Edwards was so popular...

Good point, Kimberly. It is impossible for some people to engage in a rational critical discussion of the point. Another reader just wrote me privately to say I should shut down all the comboxes for a while, because the tone has gotten so nasty he doesn't want to visit them anymore. I'm not going to go that far, but I am going to shut down this one. Sorry, screaming mimis!
