In a state where people are accustomed to slow, stupid governance, Mr. Jindal was aggressively competent. Dealing with one of the most complex disasters in the state's history, he moved swiftly to get help. The Advocate, Baton Rouge's newspaper, reported that the governor was intensely engaged in solving problems. When the hurricane was pounding the capital, word reached Mr. Jindal that medical patients housed at an LSU arena were having generator difficulties. The governor jumped into his car and handled the crisis personally.A week after the storm, many parts of the state still had no power. My father reported that everyone in the neighborhood was tired and ready for it to be over but could hardly believe how much the government was doing to put things right. Mr. Jindal had arranged for National Guard troops from other states to come help clear fallen trees and repair power lines.
The folks where my parents live aren't the only ones happy with their governor. In New Orleans, The Times-Picayune raved about Mr. Jindal's performance; even Democratic Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu gave him "an A-plus."
All did not go well with the Louisiana government's response. There were big problems having to do with disaster food stamps and hurricane shelters. Gov. Jindal said last week he had been misled by the head of the state agency responsible for those things, and that there would be consequences. Today, Jindal had her resignation on his desk.
That's change Louisianians can believe in!

Congrats Louisiana citizens. You have elected a superb Governor. If Governor Jindal does occupy the Whitehouse one day, I'll be stunned.
"When he demands the resignation of some of the people who have been drinking his Koolaid, then I'll be impressed."
No you won't.
Jindal is doing a fine job. He shows us what we can do if we strive to work together rather than fight and bicker. But I think that if he had been there during Katrina, Bush and his Corney's would have done nothing different.
Jindal could make a fine president some day and maybe after he does two terms as Governor, I'll vote for him for president. Better him than some others I could name.
One of the reasons he's so detail-minded is because half the folks he's hired in the Governor's office itself are young ideologues with almost zero experience in state government at all... and no, that's not a plus.
The ones with experience - the ones he declined to hire - would these be the ones who have maintained Louisiana's reputation as Corruptistan?
Put another way - without knowing really who Jindal has hired - could they really do a worse job of helping run Louisiana?

Sometimes "experience" is NOT what you want. Read what Dr. Sowell says about Amateurs Outdoing Professionals: http://jewishworldreview.com/cols/sowell082008.php3
