Oprah Winfrey's political double standard

Friday September 5, 2008

Categories: Media, Republicans

Oprah Winfrey is refusing to have Sarah Palin on her show until after the election. She says she doesn't want her show to become used as a political forum -- this, even though she's had Barack Obama, whom she openly supports and has campaigned for, on the show before.

Hey, fine by me. It's Oprah's show. Hers isn't a news program, so she's under no fairness obligation to have Palin, or anybody else on.

But it's going to be interesting -- real interesting -- to see if there's any backlash among a segment of Oprah's viewers. Palin's the first woman on a presidential ticket in nearly 25 years. Many, many of her female viewers have never experienced anything like this in their adult lifetimes, and they might well want to hear more about Palin and her life experiences, especially because her biography is such a big part of her appeal. If Oprah, who's so publicly identified as an Obama friend and backer, won't give them a chance to see and hear from her in that setting, she's going to alienate a lot of women, I bet.

Oprah does not offer a free forum for presidential or vice-presidential candidates. Please get your facts straights before wasting our time and try to talk about more important issues. Perhaps Sarah Palin should consider meeting with the established press, like any serious candidate would.

I suggest reading your Bible first thing in the morning before the GOP talking points -- just might soften your stony heart.

Oprah wants access to the White House so bad, that she will do anything or use anyone to get there. She is such a hippocrit, and has been for years. I refuse to watch her show, and haven't for months now. She wants to use our White House for her TV shows. She wants to be in Barbra's shoes and sleep in Lincoln's bedroom. Sickening......

Oprah never gets through doing kind and generous things for others. I´m so glad she exists. She is intelligent and understands what´s going on. I only wish more people were as wise. Thanks, for your devotion to Obama, Oprah. I´m a 78 year old great granny. I´ve seen a lot and survived "The Great Depression". No one wants to live through that again. I´m with Oprah and I´m for Obama, even if he didn´t chose Hillery to be his running mate.

I'm not among the 38,000 signors of a petition to have Palen on the Oprah show. If she doesn't want her on her show, it's OK by me. Furthermore, if she wants to support Obama, let her. I don't care. BUT I can assure you that I still have an off switch on my TV, and it's real easy to get Oprah out of my face.

Why would anyone want to see Sarah Palen on a show when the Hostess does not want her there? Are you people NUTS? That would be just an open forum to smear Sarah Palen. Palen will do just fine without the Oprah show!! (Amen)

Oprah lost 100% of my respect.
She lied when she said she did not want to get involved in this political debate...then on the other side of her fat mouth she is waving Obama flags with her friends at some rally....
I don't care if it's her show, if it's a govt. show, if she has a gazillion dollars in the bank....if she owns 30 islands....

she's still fat and full of shit. Her integrity is gone in my book.
