From Dallas Craigslist:
Politics has forced me to part company with Obama the llama. This Obama did not vote for the big bail out but will vote for and eat a bale of hay. This young male llama is gentle and halter broke. Guaranteed to be a good anti-coyote device. Gets along well with cattle, goats, sheep, horses, democrats and republicans. Guaranteed to be healthy. Call [number]
He ain't a donkey, but ah reckon he'll do. If you're a Yellow Llama Democrat, that is.

AML: I agree that in modern campaigns making the candidates "look good" is simply part of the "cost of doing business."
MarcM: If you're so worried about the issue of campaign finances and expenses, what is your take on all the "funny money" being channeled into B.O.'s campaign? People are giving way over the allowable amount ($2300, primary; $2300, general); money is coming in from foreign citizens; the lack of control and transparency by the B.O. campaign; and, B.O. violating his pledge to abide by the public finance law for his general campaign. The first two items cited are felony violations.
Give credit to the McCain campaign for: (1) clear transparency and accountability in their fundraising sources; and (2) sticking to his pledge to accept public finance (and its limits) and not take money from unaccountable sources.
Besides, $150,000 for clothes and accessories is nothing compared to the expense the B.O. campaign spared for those phony Greek columns and staging at B.O.'s DNC acceptance speech :-)
I don't know why people have a problem in naming their food. I raised rabbits as a kid an used them for food. Bugs, Pete and the other myriad of names went down just as good as if they had no names. But a llama - that's new. But to each his own.
Look, as Conservatives we have got to call out our own. 150K for clothes for a brief time in the spotlight? I EXPECT that kind of stuff from the Democrats. What did she do raid the fashion runways? Despite thinking this is ridiculous, I suspect that under the campaign laws its all kosher.
Reganite,
I'd be interested to see where the claims of excessive campaign contributions are substantiated. I've seen some B.S. flying around but I havn't seen a credible source for that assessment.
Also,
150k on clothes is completely uncalled for. So is xxx thousands (millions?) for any amount of decoration at an acceptance party. Is it just me or do these two parties stage better theatre than a Saturday night on Broadway?
I think it would be better of either/both to show fiscal prudence and say that they are doing everything they can to save as much money as possible on the campaign trail and donate all they can to any number of charities. That means less jet flights, less commercials, etc. they could turn that into a huge PR move to the general public. The best marketing and exposure you can get has always been free.

Yes, I suppose it was wise for them to spend their limited campaign funds at the rate of $20,000+ a week so Palin can keep her "look". After all, it's really hard keeping up an image of her being just a home-town girl who understands the problems of the middle class. I can see how $20K for wardrobe per week would be needed for that.
Funny thing is, Reaganite, with all of your "they do it too" arguments...I thought fiscal conservatism was supposed to be the hallmark of the GOP. If you are going about saying that the Democrats do it as well, and using that to justify whatever the GOP happens to be doing, then what you seem to be saying is that the GOP is no better than the Democrats when it comes to spending other folks' money for their own gain.
Talk about damning with faint praise.
Soooooo will the Dreher household be getting new micro livestock? Or will the chickens rule the roost?
