Tuesday November 25, 2008

Categories: Islamic terrorism
Terrific news from Dallas! Defendants in the Holy Land Foundation trial were found guilty on all counts of using what was once the country's largest Islamic charity to raise terror funds for Hamas. During the first HLF trial, which ended...

Encouraging to be sure. But if we were actually fighting a war, instead of pleading for the enemy to like us, all of these organizations would have been abolished, and their leadership imprisoned, on 9/12. The fact that a state-level court can still find anyone to try and convict, seven years after the declaration of war, tells me the Bush administration is, to put it VERY gently, not serious.
FDR handled foreign saboteurs correctly.

Can someone explain to me exactly how an Islamic organization's plans to support the eventual rule of shariah law in the United States differs from some church in Colorado Springs' plan to support the eventual rule of Bible-based principles in the United States? Or an insidious plan to implement the Benedectine option in the United States, forcing Catholic rules on honest, god-fearing, Protestant rural gun owners across the land?

We're a country that grants rights of free speech to Nazis, Communists, gays, lesbians, and crunchy conservatives. Had these found guilty had the good sense to articulate their objectives in terms of influencing rather than sabotaging would they have committed a crime? Are they that different from us? What is the line they crossed?

They were funneling money to a terrorist organization. That is illegal.

Wait, I thought the Holy Land Foundation was a Zionist amusement park in Orlando?

Hmm, I thought there was this little thing called innocent until proven guilty. If CAIR, ISNA, MAS et al have done wrong, then charge and try them.

Robert:

There's no question that these groups have the right to peacefully campaign for the overthrow of secular, constitutional government and for the establishment of shariah law (although it's worth noting that those who pursue this goal always, eventually, impose such laws by force as soon as they are able to do so, starting with their own segregated communities and parallel, de facto governments). However, our leaders must understand that these folks are NOT our allies. The fact that they pursue their agenda of islamic supremacism by different means is only an accident of circumstance, opportunity, timing and numbers. Ultimately, they are profoundly sympathetic to our enemies and absolutely share the same goals.

Sure, courting the support of the latter earns you curses and cries of "theocrat" from the chattering classes while courting the support of the former makes you "tolerant" and "welcoming."

I'm quite surprised that no one has, as of yet, used this post as an excuse to label Rod "anti-muslim", or "h@te monger", or "b!got".

I'm sure it's coming...

Every single Muslim organization named as "unindicted co-conspirators" of the guilty HLF -- and that includes CAIR, ISNA, MAS and others -- ought to be ostracized.

Remind me again what are those organizations guilty of - I missed that part.

We can only disassociate ourselves from organizations found guilty in a criminal court?

I think Robert's on to something here.

In my experience - when these types of organizations try to play ball with the big boys and change American society from within, it ends up changing them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the leaders of any of those groups came in with that intent and instead found themselves driving a Prius and buying their daughters a new cellphone every year.

If Intent was all it took to get convicted in this country - we'd all be in jail.

CAIR was created for Hamas.

An FBI Investigation revealed during the HLF trial concluded that CAIR is a Front Group.

Also: Federal Bureau of Investigation recorded evidence places CAIR founders Omar Ahmad and Nihad Awad at a Philadelphia meeting of the radical Muslim Brotherhood's "Palestine Committee". According to the FBI, "all attendees of this meeting are Hamas members or sympathizers."

This trial will be appealed. It's one to one. The ACLU also has a legal challenge against the wrongful disclosure and inappropriate labeling of ISNA as an unindicted co-conspirator.

It's a sad day for the justice system in our country. Aside from the injustice that has been done to these law abiding citizens, an injustice was done to the American constitution and people. Those who are behind this political persecution are actively destroying the confidence of the American people and world in our justice system. Those who have massive lobbying power can over ride everything in Washington, even our justice system. The outside world has figured it out and unfortunately, our fellow citizens are still oblivious to the idea. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
I pray that the Holy lord rids us of the twisted politicians in Washington and replaces them with honorable public servants, like those who founded our beautiful country. God bless the USA.

Bill.

You said: "Aside from the injustice that has been done to these law abiding citizens.."

They were found guilty. They are not law abiding. They are criminals.

You then said: "an injustice was done to the American constitution and people."

Hamas has murdered a large number of American citizens. If you want a list of them, go to the link at the end of the post. If you are prepared to read Azzam Tamimi's Hamas: the Unwritten Chapters you will get a grip on how their dawa work, training and military branches are all intertwined and interdependent.

Why exactly do you think that Hamas wants to run schools, other than to train the next generation of martyrs.

I was wondering what the response of the Muslim-American community would be to this verdict. It appears to be deafening silence. I couldn't find any blog entries under either "City of Brass" or "Progressive Revival" dealing with the verdict.

A search of the CAIR and ISNA homepages yields articles from the previous verdict - which was a mistrial, several years back.

I recognize that CAIR and ISNA have major issues, since they were unindicted co-conspirators in this case, but an honest discussion of mistakes made would go a long way towards building confidence that these groups had changed or were attempting to "clean up their acts."

I look forward to the day when these groups will address the issue of funding Hamas and other terrorist groups with the same vigor that they use in attacking hate-promoting dreck like the "Obsession" DVD. Then they will truly have a claim to represent the best of the American Muslim community.

A shameful case of fear-mongering - a tragedy for our American system of justice. We have been manipulated to do the bidding of hawkish foreign interests. In this case, the prosecutor's witness was allowed to remain anonymous.

If you thought facing your accuser was fundamental to our criminal justice system...to the ideals that American women and men have died for....ideals that inspired our foremothers and fathers to forge a proud revolution... you are confused and so am I.

Mr. Dreber,

Please contact Rabbi Eric Yoffie of the Union for Reform Judiasm who "reached out to ISNA" last year for dialogue and came under severe critisim from both Jewish and moderate Moslem groups for consorting with ISNA. He was warned of ISNA's status with the HLF and their alleged role in money laundering for Hamas.

Ask him if he has changed his position in view of this verdict. And let your readers know of his response or lack of response whichever it is.

Thanks
