I took my Flip camera to the primatial liturgy at St. Seraphim's Cathedral today, and taped Metropolitan Jonah's first Sunday homily at the OCA primate -- and his first address to his people here in north Texas. The sound quality is not optimal, alas, but you can hear him pretty clearly. There were people in tears today listening to this, and outside the cathedral too. We are so, so going to miss him. I broke the video up into two parts. The first is 10 minutes, and the conclusion is about 8 minutes. Both appear sequentially, after the jump, if you're interested in seeing and hearing what Metropolitan Jonah had to say today.
By the way, the primate of the Orthodox Church in America told me today after Divine Liturgy, and with a twinkle in his eye, "I still want to come over and bless your chickens. It'll be a Metropolitan blessing, but still."

Rod,
First, I just want to say that my wife finished your book, Crunchy Cons, and loved it! We were both in the car listening to NPR when we heard about the book and said we had to get it. Second, it's great to hear that you know Metropolitan Jonah! After my wife's reading out loud of certain passages from your book to me, I totally get why His Eminence would say he would come over and 'bless your chickens' :) You are both down to earth and I can see why the two of you would know each other.
Take care and God bless and thanks for posting these videos!

Axios! Axios! Axios!
my Calvinist upbringing does not handle the visual well.
Oh the milling about, I'd say.
What?!? Metropolitan Jonah didn't encourage the members of the parish to have sex every day for a week? (Oh that's right--it's the Nativity Fast! Doggonnit!) He might have received better better press if he had.
Feast or fast? There's an interesting juxtaposition here if anyone would wish to pursue it...
Dearest Metropolitan Jonah,
I send you my warmest greetings in Christ Jesus. We also send you our congradulations on your appointment as Metropolitan of North America. In faith and love, this was truly God's will and direction for your life. We will always remember you in our prayers and you will be missed very dearly in California.
I hope to hear from you once in a while.
May God Grant you many years,
John, Nino, Mariam
California
