Hoo boy, now the knives are out in the McCain camp. Via Andrew comes this Fox News report in which Carl Cameron reveals a claim from inside Team McCain that Sarah Palin didn't know which countries were in NAFTA, and didn't realize that Africa is a continent, not a country:
More on the Palin debacle in today's Times, which reports -- citing sources in the McCain camp -- that Palin went berserk buying clothes, and chose to outfit her whole family on the party's tab, spending six times what the campaign had budgeted for her. If true, this is pretty low-class behavior. More consequentially, she refused to prepare for the Katie Couric interview, which as we know was a disaster.
I know people inside losing campaigns always dish on each other in the aftermath. But if this stuff proves true, it'll be the end of Palin's national political career. Be honest: do you find it hard to believe Cameron's report claiming that Palin didn't know who's in NAFTA, and that Africa is a continent, not a country? Really?

Sarah Palin is an idiot. I COMPLETELY believe all the accusations about her are true. We saw for ourselves on national television during the Katie Couric interview. She's stupid. Plain and simple. And yes, Bush's record and the war and the economy played a part in McCain losing. But honestly, for those of us who didn't vote for McCain, the thought of that woman being a heartbeat away from the Presidency TERRIFIED us.
The people involved in the story on Palin are classless.
For the record: It turns out the "Africa is a continent?" story is not only fake - the alleged McCain staffer is also a made-up person:

Clearly, she is intellectually challenged, despite the spectacles. Morally challenged (seen her teenage bimbet daughter and thug boyfriend?).
The last thing America needs is a whining, preening, ignorant 'hockey MOM' whose ambition far exceeds her abilities.
Hey ho. Even the GOP likes a bit eye candy, it seems. Time for them to wear spectacles. The woman is an electoral disaster on any political stage except lil old gun totin' Alaska. Now, even they won't assist her rise? Game over. Thank God, and in her very special egocentric case: the God of shopping mall moms. Morons.

Luke, if you read the story that you linked to, you would see that they never claimed that the story was fake, just that a fictional person claimed credit for it. They only way that the story is false, is if FOX New's Carl Cameron lied on the air. He claimed the allegation came from someone he knew to be a top aide to McCain. Carl knows who is a top advisor and who isn't, so if he's telling the truth, then a McCain aide did indeed say it.
