You're right. A Todd Palin calendar would be more to his liking.
harsh...
Perhaps this is better-met after Monsieur le Sully's ursine habitations, which also provides him plausible Denalibility when under fire as a presumed Nomophobe: Don't it make his blue state red - in an Inuit minuet, aka, Minces With Esquimaux...
Or, perhaps closer to home still, this.
These Kodiak Moments brought to you by WTBS - coming up next, an all-new King of Queens, followed by O Brother Homeo, Wherefore Art Thou: very funny. (tm)
One question: Are the pictures big enough to detect signs of pregnancy? If so Rod may want to revise his prediction.
Amazing. The beautiful Christmas Carol "In the Bleak Midwinter" gets rewritten as a song of praise to Barack Obama and is sung on Garrison Keillor's PHC show a few weeks ago, and people barely notice*; but we're still trash-talking Sarah Palin for her shopping spree. 'Cause that whole "Barack as Messiah" thing was just made up by the right wing before the election, and doesn't matter anyway.
Sigh.

Here, Erin...allow me to illustrate the difference:
Garrison Keillor = Entertainer, not a public official or candidate for President
Sarah Palin = politician, public official, and (now former) candidate for Vice President of the US who ran on a platform of fiscal restraint and accountability.
Perhaps that helps you understand the difference between why one is a big deal and the other is merely off-putting at worst.
Perhaps you missed Rod's earlier post about thrift.

"Does it surprise any of you what happened when Sarah Palin got her RNC expense account, and went hog wild at Neiman Marcus? It's the same thing that happens to good-hearted, church-going folks who win the lottery--and end up nearly broke, cut off from their friends, within a decade. What is missing from the equation is a virtue that our churches have long stopped preaching, since it's even more countercultural and unpopular than Chastity--namely, Thrift."
I think Jesus said something about this kind of approach to life. I believe he compared it to straining gnats. Garrison Keillor is a gnat, Erin. Sarah Palin wasn't...and may still not be, if the GOP brings her back as their candidate for POTUS in 2012.
Andrew might like her big gun. :-)
Hey Reaganite in NYC: man you really tower, over all the other squirrels.
Rod, give it up. The woman is a Neanderthal. You have better things to write about.
No doubt that Rich Lowry over at NRO can practice every night sending "starbursts" all over his room with his calendar as inspiration.
*ewwww...*
This is the pin-up that I have of Palin on my wall to remind me how dangerous she and her dominionist Christian friends really are.
http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/sarahpalin/ig/Sarah-Palin-Pictures/When-Fascism-Comes-to-America.htm
"Never before seen photos"- Sarah reading a book, with words instead of pictures.
Steve
All due respect, RJohnson, but I'd see it more as "Sarah Palin is the former VP candidate who is still being criticized for things she did during her campaign, which, though her detractors have yet to notice it, is over; Barack Obama is the President-elect, whose followers still have no problem comparing him to Jesus to the point of rewriting a *Christmas carol* to remove Christ and insert the new Messiah of Hope and Change into the lyrics."
And, like I said, few find this even remotely troubling.
Barack Obama is the President-elect, whose followers still have no problem comparing him to Jesus to the point of rewriting a *Christmas carol* to remove Christ and insert the new Messiah of Hope and Change into the lyrics."
Except that's not what they did. They took Gustav Holst's tune and put new words to the tune. I know this whole "Obama Messiah" meme is one of your obsessions, but it just doesn't hold water here. It's just silly.
"All due respect, RJohnson, but I'd see it more as "Sarah Palin is the former VP candidate who is still being criticized for things she did during her campaign, which, though her detractors have yet to notice it, is over"
Maybe, and maybe not.

"DUBUQUE – Sarah Palin will formally launch her campaign for the 2012 Republican presidential campaign with an afternoon rally Monday at this city's Grand River Center, a traditional meet-and-greet spot for contenders in Iowa's first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses."
Sounds to me like Sarah is inviting an analysis of her past behavior for the next few years. I wonder who will be paying her clothing bill for this campaign?
"Barack Obama is the President-elect, whose followers still have no problem comparing him to Jesus to the point of rewriting a *Christmas carol* to remove Christ and insert the new Messiah of Hope and Change into the lyrics.""
Yes, it's called parody, Erin. It's a form of entertainment...something Garrison (and entertainer) does on a weekly basis.
Daniel: "I know this whole "Obama Messiah" meme is one of your obsessions, but it just doesn't hold water here. It's just silly."
Yes it is, and it is a perfect example of why the Republicans lost. People are losing their jobs, Erin. Folks are losing their homes. The economy is in terrible shape, Erin.
And all you can do is complain about a song. Talk about elitism.
I was under the impression that Palin represented all the things a crunchy con is against whereas Andrew Sullivan seems to be more in line with it (with the exception of a few of his stances).
Parody? Hardly, RJohnson.
And why are you worried about jobs and homes and the economy? Your man won, and he promised hope and change and free goodies for all; people sing and chant to him as if he were the Christ. Where is your faith? Don't you think The One will deliver?
Sarah Palin is well on her way to becoming a footnote of history, just as you wanted. But somehow, you keep dragging out the equine corpse of her "shopping spree" just for the fun of beating the stuffing out of it again. How dare you, when jobs and homes and the ECONOMY are at stake? Oh, that's right, I forgot; it's *always* proper to diss Republicans; it's like wearing pearls before five, or something.
And Daniel, I couldn't care less what nitwits and idiots do with Holst's tune. I do get mad at the tossing aside of Christina Rosetti's lovely lyrics to make a partisan political statement. The last lines of the new version--sung by operatic soprano Renee Fleming, not some breathy comedian--are this:
"All across the nation,
Sea to shining sea,
People watch the passage
Of that family.
And our loving wishes
Go out to them there.
All the nation breathes
A silent, hopeful prayer."
The only silent hopeful prayers I'm breathing are that that our new Abortionist-in-Chief won't start a hospital war with Catholic bishops over the notion that babies are punishments and should be shredded in utero as often as possible--but I'm praying it rather a lot, lately.
"our new Abortionist-in-Chief..."
Absolutely pathetic. Are you capable of shame?
It's called ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome) - see also JNC (Jay Nordlinger Citation, 4:15 pm), DHL (Dittohead Loyalties), and RLS (Rich Lowry Starbursts): against which ordinary modes of persuasion are powerless...

Completely deranged. Sad. Very very sad.
The homophobia here is really lovely. Yes Andrew Sullivan is gay, he loves men and phallic objects. How clever.
Will: " 'our new Abortionist-in-Chief...' ... Absolutely pathetic. Are you capable of shame?"
What is shameful about Erin or anyone else taking seriously the President-elect's promises to the abortion industry and its political allies? Or taking seriously his record and activities regarding this issue as a member of the Illinois state senate?
We pray for the sake of the unborn that the President-elect will break his promises to NARAL (including, for example, to make the Freedom of Choice Act the first bill he intends to sign as President) and to renounce his previous various statements on the matter.
But, until those things happen, Erin and others are quite justified in labeling Mr. Obama the "Abortionist-in-Chief."
"But, until those things happen, Erin and others are quite justified in labeling Mr. Obama the "Abortionist-in-Chief."
Yes, and until the CINOs on this list awaken from their self-righteous slumber and realize that labeling a man with two lovely daughters "abortionist" is idiotic, the rest of the world is quite justified in labeling you, Rod, Erin and the rest as hypocrites.
Well, Will, Obama said of those two lovely daughters that if they became pregnant out of wedlock, he wouldn't want them to be "punished with a baby." So I guess it's open season on the grandkids someday, if they're conceived in less than ideal circumstances.
"So I guess it's open season on the grandkids someday, if they're conceived in less than ideal circumstances."
Open season, as in deer hunting. What an innocuous choice of words, Erin. Of course, Obama didn't mean he wanted his daughters to have a choice with thier babies, he wanted to personally kill and field dress the little tykes on the White HOuse lawn.
The only "open season" here is on common sense. I think you've killed your limit.
"So I guess it's open season on the grandkids someday, if they're conceived in less than ideal circumstances."
Deranged. Completely and utterly deranged.
Daniel: "Deranged. Completely and utterly deranged."
Gosh, Daniel, is that the best you can do in the way of an argument? Kudos to Erin for trying to advance her position with examples and constructive ideas. The point is that Obama -- as a member of the Illinois state senate and as a Presidential candidate -- staked out positions on abortion and infanticide and made unguarded comments (e.g., about babies being a "punishment") that can only be described as extreme.
"Abortionist-in-Chief" merely summarizes in a memorable phrase the sum total of Candidate Obama's statements and past voting behavior.
We all pray that Candidate Obama was merely pandering to the lefties in his party and to the abortion industry ... and that President Obama will wake up on the morning of January 20th with a conviction to repudiate his old views and instead devote his Presidency to advancing a "culture of life."
Barring that happening, of course, "Abortionist-in-Chief" may well turn out to be an apt description of the man's Presidential legacy.
Reaganite has it too. ODS is epidemic.
Anyone using the monicker "Reaganite" is suffering from some disease far more insidious than mere ODS. This disease enables one to ignore those "facts" that Reagan grappled with, like California's Therapeutic Abortion Act that he signed into law.
Isn't "abortionist" really more applicable to Reagan than Obama?
"We pray for the sake of the unborn that the President-elect will break his promises to NARAL (including, for example, to make the Freedom of Choice Act the first bill he intends to sign as President) and to renounce his previous various statements on the matter."
Then your prayer is already partially granted. Between the economy and the Middle East, the new president will hardly have a moment to propose such legislation any time soon. Pro-life ministries will still be able to function, and I doubt very much that the new President is looking to start a war with Rome, as fun as such dramatic overstatement may be.
Erin - were you not aware that during GW Bush's campaigns, some of his fervent followers were slobbering over "God in the White House?" It goes both ways. Besides, with so many liberals being godless atheists, it hardly makes sense to think that anywhere near a majority of them think the prez-elect is a messiah.
Will --
Your attack on Reagan is pretty lame. Reagan signed the bill (Therapeutic Abortion Act) in 1967, the first year of his Governorship. The bill, which can hardly be called pro-choice in the way we understand the term today, had been approved by the California legislature by wide margins. Reagan biographer Lou Cannon argues that it was largely Reagan's inexperience as a freshman Governor -- along with a desire to keep his word to legislative leaders -- that contributed to his eventually signing the bill. You are invited to read Cannon's work, "Governor Reagan: Rise to Power" and especially pages 208-214, which are devoted to a discussion of the 1967 bill.
Within months of signing the 1967 bill, Reagan admitted that he had made a mistake and told associates that he would never have signed the bill if he had been more experienced as governor. As Cannon reports, it was "the only time as governor or President that Reagan acknowledged a mistake on major legislation."
In 1970, California lawmakers tried to amend the law to make it more permissive. This time, a more experienced Governor Reagan refused to go along and explained his pro-life view with these words: "Who might they be doing away with? Another Lincoln, or Beethoven, an Einstein or an Edison? Who shall play God?"
I'm proud to use the moniker "Reaganite" not only because of my affection for his brand of conservatism but because of the man's innate decency and goodness. He was without imperfections, to be sure, but unlike most current national politicians he didn't take himself seriously and he was possessed of a healthy dose of humility and a self-deprecating sense of humor. He had the "common touch."
Re: my last post, last paragraph, second sentence, I meant to say "He was NOT without imperfections, to be sure..." I mistakenly wrote (of Reagan) "he was without imperfections." Dumb mistake. Obviously I'm not without imperfections, either :-(
"Your attack on Reagan is pretty lame."
Your and Erin's attack on Obama's position on abortion was shallow and mean-spirited. You want to play Christian? Act the part.
No one, on right or left, is cheerfully advocating abortion. You don't like Obama? Fine. Find a valid criticism. Christianity's got enough credibility problems already.
Will: "You want to play Christian? Act the part."
There is nothing un-Christian (or "shallow" or "mean-spirited") about holding a politician accountable for his statements, votes and actions. It often goes by this description: "speaking truth to power."
That's all that Erin or me or any other pro-lifer is doing with regard to B.O.'s positions on abortion, infanticide and the "punishment" (as he famously put it) of teenage pregnancy.
I'm sorry you have difficulty reconciling your NEED to believe in Obama as THE "man on the white horse" with the simple and indisputable facts about his career, his votes and his statements.
And similarly, I'm sorry you have difficulty reconciling your NEED to believe in Reagan as THE "man on the white horse" with the simple and indisputable facts about his career, his votes and his statements. The simple, indisputable fact is that the TAA has enabled millions of abortions.
You and the CINOs must be running some secret abortion death calculus. Please share the stats with us. Surely your're not claiming that Reagan's votes and actions had no effect on abortion numbers, but that Obama's did? What's the tally? Whose hands are bloodier?
Will --
Reagan made a mistake in 1967 as a first-year Governor and frankly admitted it then and many times later. Never again would he be caught flat-footed on this issue which, 42 years ago, was not fully understood as it would be later.
Obama on the other hand came to his extremist positions decades after the landmark Roe v. Wade decision was handed down in 1973. No U.S. President has ever been more extremely and un-ashamedly pro-abortion than Obama.
Reagan left the Presidency 20 years ago this month and was buried five years ago this coming June. He's not here to defend himself ... but that apparently hasn't stopped you from bashing the guy.
Obama is quite alive and is scheduled to take office in less than two weeks. Shouldn't the focus be on him now?
"Obama is quite alive and is scheduled to take office in less than two weeks. Shouldn't the focus be on him now?"
Yes, what was I thinking? Let the Obama-bashing begin. I haven't heard him encouraging anyone to have an abortion, but if I squint hard enough I can imagine him offering free abortions with every purchase of a US savings bond. Yes, he must be an extremist. I'm sure he can't wait for his daughters to get pregnant so he can personally stick his hands into their wombs and jank that little non-person out and kill it.
Yes, let's forgive Reagan for signing the TAA that enabled millions of abortions and make our focus Obama's imaginary transgressions against our righteous innocence. Let's hamstring Obama now so we can blame him for the economic apocalypse in four years and elect Sarah Palin and Rick Warren.
"Obama is quite alive and is scheduled to take office in less than two weeks. Shouldn't the focus be on him now?"
Yes, let's bash him instead. Obama's actions haven't led to abortions like Reagan's did, but then give him time. I'm sure Obama can't wait to kill his daughters' children. Let's start hating him now.
Will: "I'm sure Obama can't wait to kill his daughters' children."
Gee, Will, I was hoping to have a honest discussion with you. However, your last post -- including your comment about President-elect Obama's desires on his granchildren -- suggest something off-kilter in your mind. Please seek help from a professional.
"Gee, Will, I was hoping to have a honest discussion with you."
No, you weren't, you wanted to try to revive Morning in America one last time before the whole phoney fascade crumbles. And what better way than to sound the one-note symphony of modern faux conservatism, abortion.
If you want to preach Obama as "abortionist in chief" to the Crunchy Choir, I'm sure you'll get a few "amens." Don't expect a lot of traction anywhere else.
